Exeter’s just about done, only needs her catapults, boats and a tadge more railing to be “model complete”, the sea base won’t take long to finish after that ! Here’s where she is at present, please excuse my etched brass bending tools in the foreground ! 😲🤫
On the lower right of her base are the 4 brass parts needed for one of her telescopic catapults, pesky lil critters to fold they were too ! 🤯😖

Cheers Guys 👍
@ Duke - When you realise there’s a pair of those 4 part cats, you may just realise why they made me more than crosseyed (oh the language !) 🤯🤬 ! Then there was the multifold crane jib and a pile of railings and gosh knows wot else (and that’s after I decided that over half of the brass could stay firmly on the fret !) 😖
Anyhoo, here’s where she’s at now, her boats have come aboard and there’s a bit more paint slinging to be done yet, followed by a bit of stretched sprue rigging and the finishing of the sea base.
Decided that the Arethusa can wait, decided I’d do one of Aoshima’s County Class Cruisers, undecided as to which one yet (I have all 4 thus far released); so it’ll be either HMS Dorsetshire, Cornwall, Kent or Norfolk, that’s about all I can say at present ! 😎
Unless I decide to have a crack at Trumpy’s 350th HMS Cornwall instead 🙄.... Dunno 🤔
Regards OB 😉

Cheers Boss 👍
Decided it’ll be Aoshima’s 1/700 HMS Cornwall in the “Home Fleet Grey” scheme of the early 1940’s .. Going to start another one at the same time as Cornwall that may cause the odd squall... 🤯
The Dutch Light Cruiser HMNS Tromp, an all Resin and brass kit by Niko Models in 700th.. That’ll be one that a lot of bods will never git or build (unless somebody releases it in injection moulded styrene !) 🤫🙄
Dunno why bods reckon they’re so frightened by/of resin kits, there’s no reason at all to be so afraid of (or allergic to), resin or brass, they’re quite benign to play with once you get the hang of such things and I’ve got a rather large pile of such kits in nautical flavour ! I may just decide to build a few of them after Tromp is finished, I’m getting a bit bored with styrene actually ! 🤓
Mwahahahahaaaar ! 😁

Cheers Folks 👍
@ Joe - Perfectly happy thanks ! 😎
@ Duke - Fully intend to - was more than about time I got back to the slipways - there’s more than plenty more where these came from ! 😲😆
Speaking of which, Cornwall’s hull has been assembled and Tromp’s hull has been undercoated with good old Humbrol flat 64 enamel, both have been PVA’d onto suitably trimmed 3x1in pine offcuts Cornwall’s up the back (PVA still wet on her base !)
Onwards and slipways... 😖🤨

Does putting them on the base so soon make the easier to handle?
|
|
|
Post by WardWorks on Feb 13, 2020 3:32:19 GMT -6
Yes it does - and far more stable, the weight of the base makes them far less likely to fly across the desk or hit the floor upside down if knocked by a careless hand whilst yer concentration is on the next bit to be assembled, (or where its hiding on the sprues !) 🤬
Paint on decks and hulls and that’s it for today, giving myself the rest of the evening off - I’ll start getting them more shipshape on the morrow 🥱
Regards OB 😉

Hi Folks - Thanks for dropping in 👍
There’s been a temporary halt to proceedings 😖 The long threatened outdoor deck just outside my back door is going in, starting today - posthole diggers and other timber slinging/fixing/fastening activities ain’t good for concentrating on teeny parts, particularly brass stuff, nor are the headaches such activities cause 🤯
Shutting down the works (during the day at least), until further notice is the only way forward I’m afeared - we’ll see how (or if) I can manage to shake the headaches and git anything dun at night, will depend on how long my eyes last in the lights in the works. 😲🤓
Apologies to all - back ASAP Regards OB of boogerboogerbooger 🤬
