Another thought would be see if there are any woodworker clubs in your area where someone might share some shop space on a limited basis in exchange for fellowship and new techniques being shared...

Ya Joe, If I keep moving it ain't so bad at 45-50*, after a bit. Lol! I wear a respirator only when sanding or routing, so breathing with this new lid mounted air cleaner is a blessing.
Brother Duke, I'm a full immersion kinda guy when it comes to sniffin paint, so a dabble here and a dabble there won't work for me. That's probably why I try to keep the shop work rolling, get it done in a reasonable time frame so I can get back to the bunker. This summer will be loaded with a back patio area, pergola and fire pit, plus a horse trailer shed, if I get to it, lol. Remember, in retirement there is no schedule, right? Or, at least that's what a buddy told me before I pulled the eject handle.

Looks great man! I SOOO miss my woodshop...Mine has developed electrical problems since our flood in August...I can barely keep the freezer we have out there running, so I've had to disconnect everything and it's sitting unused until time allows!

Sorry to hear that Scott. Find an electrical buddy to do some wire chasing. If ya gotta punch into the wall to rewire it can be costly, but it's much better than risking a fire. Hope you get it figured out.

The panels for the pantry cabinet are almost ready for assembly. Once these last two panels are done they will get a serious sanding, then off to the router and final test fit. Once they are assembled I'll sand the stiles and rails and get a few coats of Tung oil on them, install the hinges and make sure the hardware is up to snuff. Last, but not least, internal drawers will be made and sliders installed before I haul this puppy in to the kitchen. This is a slow process, but it's still fun,......... so far, lol.
This is one of many loads from the Shop Smith vac. Seems to fill rather quickly when using the planer. I'm wondering what to use this for other than starter for the fire pit. Any ideas?
Cheers, Ski.

Since I have gotten into woodworking I heard of some guys mixing it with wood glue and using it as a filler. Obviously not that much is needed LOL but save some of it and use the rest of it for bedding, fire starter, Ice melter and Garden Mulch. LOL Those doors are going to look great on that pantry. I like the idea of using that wood. Its definitely not something you see every day. Saw a video that a guy built something, I cant remember what, out of wood from a tree that had disease in it that caused the wood to have black lines running through it. really neat looking especially once he put the varnish/finishing oil on it. Man that made the grain and those black lines stand out.

Yes Rich, filler works too. On any joint within tolerance I just fill the gap with wood glue and sand with the orbital, fills it in perfectly, plus the tones will be correct. My Boss really likes the rustic look of the hickory, but we've never seen pics online with these drastic patterns, so far. Heck, the lumber company owner had me take the left overs on the rack, nobody wanted them. They just so happen to be exactly what we were looking for, lol.
Good idea Jed, but I'm gonna end up with at least another two to three loads before this is all done, yikes!

Panels have been built and an initial coat of tung oil has been applied. Today I'll go over the surfaces a second time to evenly coat the oil over the grains. Even with a heavy first coat the material can still suck up the juice, so I will need to temper the sheen on each individual section. Ya, it's a pain in the buttoxxxxxxx, but the finished results are worth the extra effort. But then again, I've never been one to diddle in details or sweat the small stuff, right? Once I remount these on the cab it's drawer time, yehaaaa.
Cheers, Ski.

Time for some drawer building, then knock out the small cab above the refer before I install this big pig. It's 30" deep, so sliders are a must or ya just may get lost in there, lol. I've never built drawers, so that'll be a real hoot. Come to think of it, I've never built cabinets either, until now, HA! I'm still havin fun,........ yehaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
Cheers, Ski.
