Splendid job on the searchlight box, Russ! I have to wonder about the tactical utility of the thing, though. Looks like a crewman has to climb out and open the front doors, unless there's some internal remote opening mechanism we can't see. But judged strictly on the constructive gizmology on display here it's fabulous.

Aleph is tan: IMG_6289 by Russel Baer, on Flickr And I finished the searchlight on Gimel, adding the braces, removing the goofy lifting eyes (couldn't see them in any of the three pics I have) and adding a couple of grates up top, for cooling intake and exhaust air: IMG_6290 by Russel Baer, on Flickr The pics I have are pretty bad, only showing the rough shape of the attachments on each side of the housing, nothing on how they anchor at the mantlet, so I guessed. The sponge comes out tomorrow, after it's all dry and secure.

T'anks! I can only wonder myself about how useful the thing would be, and I wouldn't want to be the guy that had to go open it up either. I would imagine a remotely operated set of solenoids, with a spring on each door? I dunno, but it would make a great target at night.... I suppose there's a good reason I only have three poor quality pics of the thing mounted, out of a whole bunch of reference material on hand. One pic is on a tank with the mine roller, and I could see the usefulness in that application.

Modeler's ADD: IMG_6564 - Copy by Russel Baer, on Flickr That used to be a Magach7, finished a couple of years ago that I did a horrible paint job on. Actually, it was my first (and only) attempt to use an oil wash, and it just flat out was wretched, so I stripped it down to the basic hull and turret, then cleaned up the turret, fixing and removeing all the brackets and holes for the add-on armor, and started the same on the hull. In all honesty, I was getting bored, so this was my "fix". I suspect the hull will end up as the basis for a "what if", with the turret earmarked for a future Magach6 project. Or not. What I did do was add the markings on Aleph, nice items from DEF: IMG_6563 by Russel Baer, on Flickr And scratch up the brackets for the crew personal weapons on Gimel's roof: IMG_6562 - Copy by Russel Baer, on Flickr It's cold and windy today, so I'll probably have to wait to shoot clear on Aleph, but that's next, then panel line accents and detail painting.

Thanks Joe. I have managed to do one side rail on Gimel's turret..... IMG_6565 by Russel Baer, on Flickr Other than that, I spent way too much time going through parts boxes, just staring at stuff. ADD? Who, me?

I gotta noodle on that a bit yet, make reasonably sure I'm actually done, aside from stowage. Come to think of it, I just now, and I mean NOW, remembered I need to do the tent and stretcher brackets on each front fender. See what I mean? That's one thing about kit bashes like this: there's no instruction book to come to the end of, or no such thing as "All the parts in the box are on, I'm ready to paint" moments.

Something I would have hated to have forgotten, brackets for the crew tent and stretcher, on top of each front fender, from scrap: IMG_6571 by Russel Baer, on Flickr Still staring at it a lot....
