As modeler I have a wide variety of interests, going from WW1 to sci-fi and everything in between. So this time, ...space it is! I vaguely remember the tv show "Space 1999", but I clearly remember the Space Eagle, always intreged me, so when seeing this in 1/48 scale I didn't hesitate. The box is huge, and filled with plastic, nice decal sheet (which will be used only half...) and some clear parts, Ne PE guys... Also bought the diorama set box, ...but looking at the size of all of this I'm not sure I will be using it in the end. Starting with the cockpit, assembly is quite easy and straight forward, not extremely detailed but good enough, and it fits great (also important!) Still have some spare LED's which will go in the cockpit and the cargo area, hopefully it all works in the end! There are 2 crew figures added, details...well...euhm not a lot..as you can see. Painted everything as instructed, closed the cabin and so far I have working LED's! So far for part 1 !

I thought I mentioned that this one is big...well gents...please keep that in mind! To build this I thought it would be best to do so in phases, module (or pod) by module. What these modules are called I don't know, it is not mentioned, it has some engine features so let's leave it at that. If you take a look at some of the parts they might look familiar...I think I recognize the back of a panther tank...anyone? There are 2 of these to build and it all fits very well, no putty needed here. Both modules are protected by some kind of frame work, the longer section has to keep the entire structure together I believe. At this point I also decided not to go for a clean white "Eagle"...so there will be some weathering.

That engine deck looks a bit familiar Ha, it does he....strange to see on a space ship, guess they ran out of ideas... Not so! In the days before everything special effects was CGI, real models were built and sometimes they were huge: The Star Trek Enterprise from the original series (now at NASM) is over eleven feet long! There's a long tradition in the special effects modeling world of using pieces of commercial kits of all sorts to add detail to the models used for film work. This particular example is pretty easy to identify, but it sin't always so when parts are cut up, rearranged, and mixed with bits from everywhere. Splendid looking Eagle from Space: 1999 coming together here. The LEDs are particularly cool.

At this point the sub assemblies are done, at least for as much as possible. Also did a quick test of the LED's in the cargo area. As you all can see, it takes a lot space in your work space LOL. Next....Primer time !
