Next, painting!! All the sub assemblies got a coat of light grey primer (tamiya) from the spray can. The entire rig is covered with small grey squares, so used masking tape to cover those areas before painting everything white. The transport module is recognizable by its red/white striping, so after a few Coates of white I masked everything and started the red striping, all things considered I'm quite pleased with the result. For the black areas there are decals provided in the box, but I decided to paint everything, looks more authentic to my feeling. Decals btw are very Nic and of good quality. ....at a certain point a ran out of Matt white paint (used 3 tamiya bottles so far !), so had to use gloss white for the transport module.

Well, it's about time putting some things together! First attaching the first module to the cockpit, added 2 small tubes to hide (and protect) the cables that come out of the cockpit (LED's). Fit like the rest of this kit so far, is good, no issues, no putty, good work. The exhaust is also done, as you can see...it is BIG! My good friend Rudolf (scale 1/35) insisted to be at the testing of the engine...you can see where it got him... The "feet" are painted, weathered and received decals, also here are all the black area's hand painted instead of decals. There is one long section that keeps the ship together, I call this "the Bridge", engineering of the bridge is quite smart, with holes and pins at all the right places, so assembly is easy! The are some sink marks but there not visible once assembled. And as you can see I didn't want to go for a "clean" space ship, there is some weathering, this thing has been used!

So, moment of truth, time to put it all modules together! Honestly it went a lot easier than expected... Note the LED wires (from the cockpit) coming out of the first module, they will go in to the transport module where all wires (also the transport LED's) will come together. Drilled a hole in the floor of the transport module to lead the wires out, painted the interior of the tp module black, so the wires can't be noticed. Connected the rear module and exhaust, perfect fit. Everything was connected to the "bridge" on top, the transport module needs 2 screws to be attached to the "bridge", good idea for extra support. Did some extra pinwashes to create extra details, but other than that I think I better leave it like it is... Sprayed the underside of the eagle to simulate some dust.

The Eagle itself is about completely finished, maybe some extra dusting or detailing in the end we'll see about that. So now it's time for the base, since the Eagle itself is already big I'm going keep the base within limits...I still have to put it somewhere.. So a little bit of a moon landscape and a landing zone, some rocks here and there...not to fancy, as you can see in the layout. I "borrowed" some extra LED's from my wife's stash...that will be used on the LZ, 3 switches (1 for the eagle, 2 for the LZ) go underneath the LZ. Each switch is hidden behind a gate, the gate is a leftover....it's a part of a side skirt from a Challenger 2 tank! So the gates are not glued...would be stupid otherwise. Fun thing about sci-fi is you can use your wildest imagination, ..as you can see in the "communication tower". The base was painted back, when dry, I masked the areas that were to remain black. Did underestimate the following step...painting the whole thing orange...took 5 layers to get rid of the black! Removed the masked areas...quite pleased with te result. There are a lot of pictures...sorry for that..
