Started last night, using up some leftovers, to include Dragon, Academy and Tamiya parts, so far. Kaizen T-80 tracks ordered today, gotta look at a particular Legends set later, and yes, it will be an "under new management" build. More when I get home.

This should be outstanding, just like all your Patton builds.

So far: IMG_4141 by Russel Baer, on Flickr Academy lower hull, from their M51 kit, Dragon upper hull, from one of their M4A3 kits, and a Tamiya M51 turret. I've got a rear hull plate from the old MP Models M50 kit grafted in too. The goal is to build one of the 40 or 50 M51's converted from M4A3 hulls, and of course to use up some of these Sherman kit remnants I've had laying around for years. More to come!

Looking good Russ. I'm assuming, this will be a 60s Israeli Tank?

After wasting about 90 minutes of my life attempting to assemble Kaizen tracks, I dug out a set from a Tamiya Korean War Sherman and moved on, getting the engine deck and rear plate nearly done. This is the initial build version with a single exhaust on the rear plate and no louvers on the engine deck, so I'm using what's left from the Tamiya M-51 parts kit that I took the lower hull and other stuff from a few years ago.Anyway, pics: IMG_4143 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_4142 by Russel Baer, on Flickr I realized that I also have everything on hand to do the very last version of the M-51. Hmmm...... I also realize that I should stick to one piece tracks or Friuls that are one piece per link. Those Kaizen tracks are NUTS! Twelve pieces per link, plus pins! No way.

Yeah Bruce, the Academy kit has sponson fillers, all I had to do was add a little bit to fill gaps. It was surprising how well the Dragon upper hull fit. So, today I put the fenders from a Tamiya M-51 hull on, started the hull side stowage and got the mantlet on. I had to re-texture the turret sides after blending the seam, no biggie. Stowage boxes are Dragon and Academy, can racks are Dragon. IMG_4172 by Russel Baer, on Flickr I'm gonna need to scare up another Dragon kit because I'm using parts I had squirreled away for an early M-50 I have started in a box somewhere.....

Did you re-do the weld seams or are those the kit welds?

All the weld seams are kit, one of the reasons I like this hull. Even the big ugly weld on the turret, the one that attaches the "new" bustle, is a kit weld.

Okay. A quick bit of research and asking other people led me to realize I had the wrong engine deck and exhaust configuration for a post '73 or Batch 3 tank. Oops. A quick swap of the engine deck was easy, nothing was glued in yet, and it was easy enough to blank off the exhaust outlet in the rear plate too. Then I got a start on the left side of the hull, lots to do there.... IMG_4261 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_4260 by Russel Baer, on Flickr Lookit me now Mama, I'm goin' fast!
