In light of the downfall of a great scale model forum, Automodelling.com, I started wondering just where the members of this forum, OSM, may have started out. I, myself, started doing the forum thing on Scale Auto Magazine's forum. Then, I got an invitation from James(theflame) to join Automodelling.com, and it just snowballed from there. I know at one point, I was a member of 14 different forums.
So, I thought I would ask you folks just how many of you were members of Automodelling.com. And, while you're at it, go ahead and list the very first scale model forum you started on.

I came from Automodelling.com as well and until now considered it home. There was a great bunch of modellers there and we could also be a little bit naughty. It is great that a lot of the old gang are here and I thank you Bucky for organising this forum. My first forum was Scale Auto but I never felt welcomed there and I think a lot of them are tossers. I have never gone back there. My other favourite forum is Coffin Corner as I love Show Rods. There is an Australian site The Parts Box and they sell great resin parts check out their stuff and I visit that site as well. There are others but I only visit there but I find that a lot builders are members of lots of forums and I just see the same stuff at a lot of sites. There is no problem with that as not every one know about all modeling sites. So basically I have 3 forums that I am active in.

Auto Mod was the one and only forum (for modelling at least) that i've ever used to any great degree. I joined Scale Auto but soon realised it wasn't for me so I stuck with AM solely for the same reasons everyone else did - great supportive members and a responsible but relaxed attitude. Very sad to see it expire but like someone else pointed out, thanks to Bucky for getting this wonderful site up and running. I now call this home. Long may it continue!

I was a member of Automodelling.com, and Scale auto, Model Cars Mag. and a slew of others in the past. I even had my own forum Called The Model Car Cafe. Which was around for about a yr or 2. Its since long gone.

I was a member on Automodelling, for 2 years. The first forum I was ever on was B.M.C (Brian's Model Cars). I now belong to 13 forums, BUT, call O.S.M. my HOME!

I also belong to BMC but only use it as a reference tool, there's a good selection of how-to's and a very large gallery for inspiration. To be honest I only have time enought for posting and reading one forum so i'd prefer it was run (and populated) by people I think of as 'friends'.

Was on BMC for less than a week. Got chewed out once for missing a period in a sentence. I apparently commited a serious violation of their rules there. Told em what I thought of em when I was told my build was not good enough quality to be posted there

...and that's exactly why I never post there too. As bad as SA sometimes.

You won't find that happening here. If there is a problem with a thread or post, the admin staff will contact you through PM or email and discuss it with you!

The last time I logged onto BMC was 11/2 yrs ago. I got tired of the BS rules and the "GROUP OF SPECIAL PEOPLE " on there. They were VERY uppity & seemed that they only wanted to converse among themselves. That is why I am here, and helping Bucky to make this "THE BEST MODELING FORUM ON THE NET"

I appreciate the help, too! I know we all can't be on here all the time. I, myself have already had a "leave of absence"! Sometimes, other things take over on the priority list! I never did care for an uptight atmosphere, such as what some forums seem to have. Maybe that's fine for them. I like the way you guys are keeping it kinda loose around this joint. It makes it more enjoyable for me, and I hope you folks like it that way, too! The best administration is one that doesn't have to do a whole lot!!! HAHAHA

I think given the people we have here and the sheer enthusiasm we all have for the hobby, you shouldn't have any problems moderating Bucky. For me this site is already a fine "successor"? to AM. I'm sure in time that it'll be as chock-full of images and info as any other site!

OSM to me is like son of AM, and has some of the feel, though the language is a little more genteel! My first forum was SAE too and yes it did geta bit silly at times. James poached me over to AM around the same time as you Keith and I immediately posted there more than I ever did at SAE - which wasn't that often. Though there were and still are some sound chaps over at SAE , there were some right planks too. As far as other forums go I am a member at Quatermilers. MCM and Adrenaline - yeah I like dragsters!! Also pop along to Coffin Corner now and than when I feel inclined. Also can I just say, one of the nicest guys and helpful to boot - Walter Frey - used to be a regular on SAE and currently on Quatermilers I think - "6bblbird" - a really great guy and modeller too!

Yes, I agree about Walter Frey. A large amount of knowledge on the MOPAR world, too, if I remember correctly! How about sending him a PM over at Quartermilers and see if would check out this little place? All he can do is say "NO!!!!!" I guess my favorite forums are the ones I have in my signature block at the bottom of all my posts. Some of those have been around a while and are good forums.

s'funny but I can remember just the mere mention over on SAE of another forum could get you banned or at least a stern talking to from Jim!

Yeah, he's a bit selfish with his members!!! hahaha Several of us here are members of several different forums, most of them Proboards forums. Each one different in its own way, but familiar enough to be easy to navigate. I have no problem with the mention of other forums, even SAE!!! I'm here to promote the hobby, not my own agenda!! And I appreciate all the members we have!
