Can't help myself. I went ahead and started messing aroung with the Magach7 hull, just doing fact-based stuff but with a "what-if" flavor, detailing the suspension, hollowing out the fictional indents in the swing arms and starting to add back some of the detail I lost when I stripped this thing. I also figured out Tamiya Abrams road wheels only needed a very slight modification to fit, so I'm going with a "modernized" IDF M60, for now... Neither of the "real" M60's I have going on will be shelved, I just needed something less "factual" to play with.

Dreaming some more, using an ESCI turret, with the basket from the Academy Magach6B Gal Batash, one I pulled parts out of a few months ago. Okay, more on the Magach6D Gal (That's what I'm calling it, unless I think of something better....) So:  IMG_6573 by Russel Baer, on Flickr I started the mantlet (AFV Club) and IDF cover (scratch), started the access port for the Gal FCS (scratch) and added the Gal main sight housing (Academy). Tow lugs are DEF, fender extensions and hangers are Dragon.  IMG_6572 by Russel Baer, on Flickr Above, final drives and sprockets are ready. Sprockets are old Tamiya T-62, tracks are Friul Merkava4 which fit prefectly, much better than on the Merkava sprockets that they came with. I added volute spring bump stops from a Dragon M48 kit, thinking they look better than the inaccurate stops Academy (and Tamiya and ESCI) mold on the hull.

Thanks all. Sorry for the bold type, I only meant to highlight one word..... I went round and round with those Friuls a while ago, and was really surprised to see what sprockets did fit. Being the inquisitive type I am, I tried them on lots of different kits, and was holding them back for something just like this.

And, randomly, I'm leaning towards no side skirts, just to show the suspension. The 105mm gun tube is just stuck in there to see what it looks like, I'm pretty sure this tank needs a 120mm gun. |
