Ernie, I'll probably be starting my Hawk in a week or two, I'll let you know when it gets started. And yeah, I'd love to do the orange version like the TV show. There's gonna be a lot of sub-assemblies for this I recon. Looking forward to seeing more on here. Nice bracing work on that sub! Thanks Duke! Yeah, when you are ready to do the Hawk, just let me know and I will bring it to the forefront! You are right, there will be a lot of sub-assemblies on this as all the major parts have orange on them! But it will be cool! Maybe we should consider a merger of a couple of our manufacturing divisions as you had also mentioned doing shared builds of the Star Wars B Wing and the Mercury Redstone rocket as well I'm sure that we may also find other common kits as well.

Ernie I like that idea; as Joe said, we could set it up in the mini group build area. We could combine both ideas by calling the Thread something like Ernie and Maddog Affiliation or something along those lines.
Let me know which one you want to start first. Then we can get it set up.

Sounds like a plan. I'll take a look at all three this coming week and see which one screams the loudest at me to build. Result will be posted here and then I'll set something up in the Mini-group Build Forums.

Great work! I keep a lot of left over sprue from the kits I build. So many different diameters of sprue, and some are kinda square, too. Comes in handy when ya don't have the right size styrene rod and stuff.

Yeah, I see what you did Ernie. I'll still take my time deciding. The next one you choose.

Yep, and when using like that in an area where it won't be seen, no need to use the good stuff; it doesn't have to be pretty, it just needs to work.

So, to get back to the saga of the sub, the deck fittings didn't fit all that well.... that was one of the reasons I put it away. I glued them into place and tried to putty and sand around them to blend them in, it didn't go so well and honestly they looked like crap, and all the while I had a nagging though..."you're doing this wrong", so I stopped and took a second look.....and then cut the fittings off Then I puttied over them and sanded them out nice and smooth. The bits were re-glued into place, and the bollards replaced with pieces of .030 Evergreen rod and capped with a disc punched from .010 sheet. So, while not perfect, they do look better than the did before I think. The old Waldron punch and die set used to make the discs. I made the miniature hammer at work one night years ago. And where we are at the moment. The sail is not glued on yet as I want to paint and mask the windows first and also I have brass tube cut that will be used to mount the sub to its base and I need to get to the inside of the hull to epoxy the rods in place. I was hoping to get that done tonight, but when I went and grabbed the base I realized that I had not polyurethaned it yet, so did that, but will probably have to put on a second coat later today. If you have to scribe (or re-scribe) lines on a curved surface, these templates made by Hasegawa Tri-tools are great. I had been wanting to get a set, and finally a couple months back I picked up a set and they are very useful. Also in the picture is the UMM U.S.A. scribing tool, again, another very nice and useful tool. I used these to replace the panel lines that were wiped out when I had to sand out the seam around the hull.

Very cool stuff, here! Looks like the brass BFH is doing the trick on those punches! Welllll.....maybe it's a LFH, but it's an item I wouldn't mind having!! LOL
