Thanks gents
Started the M-30 conversion. The resin kit has air bubble, incomplete cast, and warpage issues. Not a deal breaker; I've seen better but I've seen a whole lot worse. Altho not apparent in the following the cargo deck goes in three different directions and the projectile rack is abysmal

The deck I can fix with screws from below pushing it up where needed but the rack was beyond salvage. Therefore,

the scratched replacement in the center of the pic. Suspension half done and the upper hull cut, squared up, and the first stage glue and clamp in place.

will be ready for decals tomorrow. I'm not looking forward to all the little decals on the 155 projectiles, I'm hoping they are not like some of the older Academy decals which are as thick as duct tape and just about as impervious to mirco-sol
Regards, Mark

Well, Mark, you aren't giving me warm fuzzies about spending fifty bucks on the Commander's Models conversion when I know that I could build what I need. Couple of questions for you: What are the measurements of that ammo rack: L x W, the spacing on the holes, and the sizes you drilled. Forewarned is fore-armed, as they say. The main structural panels look to be made out of pretty thick stock, can you measure that, too? Looks like at least .030" or maybe even .040", which is pretty thick. I'll buy that for the exterior panels, which were likely one inch armor plate, but the inside partitions for the shelves were probably thinner. Whatever was stowed there couldn't possibly have been heavy enough to require shelves and partitions an inch thick.

Thanks gents
Beek I'm not really thrilled with the kit myself, it's somewhat disappointing. I almost wish I'd just scratched it to be honest. I did the rack from .040 sheet for two reasons, one being the extra foot that .040 provides for assembly and the other that in this case thickness really does not matter as the rack will be full of 155's and no one will see extra thickness. I feel that .020 would be more to scale.
The rack is now installed but I will measure some stuff and get back to you concerning your remaining questions
Regards, Mark

Dang Mark! That is perseverance to make those resin parts work. The receiver on the Ma Deuce looks serviceable. Staying tuned my good man.

Cheers blokes
Beek the resin box walls mike out to an average of .047", probably could not cast them in resin any thinner or they'd break when you looked at them. The width of the scratched rack is .333", the height is .931", and the length is whatever it measures between the inner walls. I did mine a bit long and filed the ends to fit. The hole spacing is .122" on center, and the front plate where the nose of the projectiles go was drilled to .123" while the back was drilled to .172".

I tried really hard to like the resin set but was not entirely successful for a variety of reasons, not the smallest is the fact I tossed over half of the powder tubes as they were a mess of bubbles and voids. However, one swallow does not make a summer and I am unwilling to roast Commander Models over this whoops

Great job, Mark. I'll take down those measurements for whenever I decide to scratch one of these myself. The Tamiya accessory set for the Deuce-and-a-half has the MG ring parts, and those are easy to find. The rest is just sheet stock, other than that ammo rack. That will require some careful planning and measuring.

Everything is looking good, Mark! It's great that you're able to compensate for the shortcomings of the resin set. All is not lost!!
