I think judging different genres for MOM of the month might be a bit difficult. Can we do something like this:
January MOM: Cars/Trucks February MOM: Figures March MOM: Armour April MOM: Planes May MOM: Dioramas

That would force people to aim for a certain time slot where all together you can hit it any month...

Dan has a great idea for a forum with a large membership. Everybody, get all your friends and relatives to join us, and we can do some MOMS like these!!

Not sure about a definitive category each month as I’d keep it open to all every month. I can see the reasoning though, for example at the moment OSM has a lot of auto so those builds might have an advantage. Personally, I’d vote on the results and not the subject and I’m sure I’m not alone

I look at the skill involved not whether it's a car or sci-fi...

All inclusive entries doesn't single out any one form of modeling.

Okay, folks, the staff has kicked it about, and came to the unanimous decision that staff members will not enter builds in the MOM, but will be allowed to vote on the entries that have been submitted.

That sounds fair I guess, but I don't like that I can't vote for that awesome Snark you're building. That one gets my vote!

Thank you, so much, Mark! However, I'm not finished with it. I still have time to mess it up properly!!!

I, for one, don't think the exclusion of administrators is either necessary or warranted.
The proposal for this "contest" is purely one of recognition with absolutely no tangible prize or benefit derived. Why then would it be necessary for the administrators to exclude themselves. If 10 people enter the MOM contest, in the grand scheme of things, what does it matter whether an administrator or a regular member wins? Additionally, what does it matter whether a car, tank, airplane, or diorama wins?
For me personally, I will try to build one model per month, every month, regardless of whether this contest happens. However, I do not intend to enter ANY of my models in the monthly contests. Why? Because I fundamentally oppose the concept of "judging" one piece of art against another. I do not agree with a contest between two models any more than a contest between two oil paintings. I know most modelers don't feel this way and that's fine...I just disagree.
I would hope that I can vote on models entered in this contest as long as there is a clear set of guidelines or standards on which to evaluate the builds. As long as there are some basic "rules", I can objectively "grade" any model...whether it's a car, diorama, or spaceship.
Just my 2 pounds...which may be worth nothing shortly!!!

I haven't entered a contest since the Nationals in 2008. But I will be an avid spectator rooting on the sidelines.

I have entered many contests, most recently Orangecon at the end of September. That being said, I don't know that I'll ever enter here due to being up against so many true Masters who regularly put out work that makes mine look like toys. I will still look in and offer my vote at times while joining Dan to root on the sidelines.
