Some interest has been expressed in having a MODEL OF THE MONTH category here at OSM. Any model can be entered, by any member, as long as there has been a build thread on the pages of OSM to refer back to. No time limit on the build, and the model can be entered in any month after completion of the build.
Example: Entries for MOM for December would be submitted in the middle of November. Voting would start around November 20, and run to November 30. Winning entries would be posted on or near the first of December for December MOM.
The monthly winners would be set in a MOY(Model Of the Year) at the end of the year.
This a rough draft of guidelines, open to discussion, but let's vote on this, folks!

My only concern is how to identify all the builds throughout all the forums each month fairly.
1. How do we ensure each build is in fact a "new" model and not one that was built 2 or 3 years ago? Or, do we care?
2. Will there be a separate build thread established for this competition? Or will any build be eligible?
3. Will there be a time limit (for a start date) for the competition? Or can any build, regardless of start date, be eligible?
Just a few thoughts that came to my beer addled mind.
Don't get me wrong!!! I love the idea! I just have some questions!

I think a model should be entered as near to it's completion as possible otherwise I think it's a good idea

How about this idea? If you want to enter a build in MOM, it should be within a month of completion. No separate thread, such as we do for a group build. Build your model in whatever category it fits, and then enter the MOM closest to the completion date. No start date needed. If it takes 6 months to build, or 6 days, you can enter it in the MOM. I know plenty of us have posted past builds that would be great candidates for MOM. Since this is for members of this forum, I'd like to have a build thread tying the entry to OSM. None of this is set in stone...just ideas to kick about, as we gather votes on the MOM issue. Toss some more ideas out there, guys!

I agree that the build should take place here on this forum and be documented here. As was said earlier I believe we should start with the first builder picked for January... that gives us the start of the first of 12 for the modeler of the year for 2018!!! Also gives everyone 3 good months head start to enter their build in the end of January vote...

It wouldn't have to be kit-based, either. A complete scratchbuild, or a restored "gluebomb" would be eligible.

I like where this is going, build them in OSM as and when, then if you want put them in MoM. There should deffo be a WIP thread on here but it could be a detailed (or not) as you want. Go for it I say

As long as there is reasonable anecdotal evidence that...
The build was completed by you.
The build thread is posted on OSM, within reason start to finish.
It's recent (not one where you grabbed old images from years back from your album and carefully built a 'new' blog over a couple of weeks).
Then I'm in.
Only thing I would add is when we start this, by that I mean, the forum is in its infancy and while we are on the up, are we ready just yet?

All valid points Prof and for the last one that is why I suggested starting with the New Year in January...

Would this encompass all generas and if so Diorams? In the past forums, a car went up against full blown military builds set in Dioramas. Hard to compete like that.

That's a good point, Bruce! We could start out with just buildups at first, meaning no dioramas, or scenes. Just shoot the build on a clean backdrop, so that's where all the focus is for voting. Then, when things get rolling well enuff, we could add a DOM (Diorama Of the Month).

Sounds good to me... unless your name is Pete and you always put your models on a nice base...

For the purpose of voting on a model, I think keeping them separate from a base would be best. Another vote for the dio, or vignette type builds might be the way to go for those fantastic scenes the guys are turning out!

Oh, great, I already got all my separate models built for this "dio". Now what am I suppose to do, huh??, wait a few years till we get to "dios" Bahahhaaaaaaaaaa, just kiddin, just kiddin. I like the aforementioned ideas, but was thinking if we have a contest for say, January, shouldn't the models be entered in January and not December, the month prior? As in, win the month you enter, not later, make sense? This is all about fun and friendly competition, so I agree on starting off with builds from OSM only. I'm so dang slow anyway it'll take forever to enter the contest anyhoo. Ruck On I say!

I know in Model Car Shows, most of them don't allow figures or any other scenery in them. Thanks Fellas. I think this would help to keep most of them near the same level. Some ship models, also are set on a base of water scenery and that would inhibit them as well.

We all know each other on here and I hope we will all get to know each other better. We build, we share, we show.
If I ever enter something in MOM and don't win then I know I was beaten by a better model / figure / diorama regardless of builder or genre.

My two cents:
The builds should have a WIP thread showing start, at least some construction, and finish. For some removing bases could be a major issue. If a vehicle, be it civilian or military, is to tell a story, much of it would be lost if the base is not included. Could change an incredible work to "its ok but looks out of place". As you must finish to enter you could make it completed within the previous one or two months.
No matter how you do this you do have to remember it will be a form of popularity contest. For this context you need that. Folks will vote for what they like. For them it may just be they are good friends with the builder. In the end though populartity, for the builder or the build, will rule.
