It got better at a swapmeet yesterday, we got shot of most of the rest for another couple of thousand bucks
There's a bit of a suprise for me as well, or so I'm informed by his brother, who'll be calling on me one night this week to drop it off
I have no idea what it could be at this point in time
Best Gomez of dunno ππ

Not likely... just call me Pinkerton - I never sleep !
I doze off occasionally π΄ but never really sleep properly or well, I sleep so lightly, the noise of a mosquito breaking wind π¨ has woken me up before today π²
I go to bed when I feel tired, but real sleep never comes. In the hotter months, I can go for days without sleeping, I've been known to be at my desk all night, building kits, that's one reason I can get a lot built to the paint stage in fairly quick time π€«π³
In any case, I shan't be waiting long, just had a phone call from my mate's brother, he and his son will be paying me a visit tomorrow night and I've been asked to not put the lock on the gate that separates my place off from the side lane so they can get in to knock on my door without me having to go outside and freeze my backside off, that's friendly consideration for you ! π
Best Gomez of I think I have an idea what it may be (and I'm dreading it ! ππ€«) .

Won't be long now, just about 6-7 hours or so... I'm still kind of dreading it....π²
I'm pretty sure I know what's coming...if I'm right, it also answers another question I had re the sales and what I didn't see included in what was sold.π€
More as it happens, til then we can only wait π€―

Tiny ships and tanks with photo etch???

|
Post by WardWorks on May 22, 2023 18:46:56 GMT -6
Not ships or photo etch...(whew !) π«¨
He wasn't into ships or extra photo etch at all... Like me, he had a huge pile of photo etch from kits where the etch was for in the cockpit, and couldn't be seen if the canopy was closed thus making the photo etch useless.
Also like me, he kept a record of kits he bought, where he bought them from, and how much the kits cost at time of purchase. (Those lists are terribly frightening on a yearly basis, in my case ππ€―)
I'll tellya the rest after I've been visited tonight. ππ
Best Gomez of reconfiguring his desk to the inevitable (its not just a table, its an inevitable folks ! ππ)

Ok Stop waiting...π
They arrived bearing boxes, which looked rather familiar, and confirmed my dreadings...π€―
Boxes I'd packed with 72nd kits before I got shot of them, voided my stash of 72nd entirely, armour and Aircraft. none were in their original kit boxes, all had been removed from their boxes and repacked into resealable bags, with instructions and decal sheets, plus box backs (if colour scheme info was printed on em, or box fronts, to show what kit was in the bag... (get a lot more kits per box that way you see). When I got shot of my 72nd collections, he got first dibs on my stash, and he took these boxes and their contents for a nominal, "mates rates" sum.. He's built a few of em (why not, they were his after all ! ) He always said that knowing me, I'd end up in 72nd again, π€ sooner or later, every time we chatted, he was always saying you got more bang for your buck with 72nds, both in kit prices and the storage area the finished kits (particularly armour), don't need when put away in boxes (you get more 72nd AFV's in a given size box than 35ths for sure !)
He's given me no choice really (I can't sell these off, my mate left them to me !)π€« Some of you may remember me posting pix of my latest grabs on the Worx... piccies like this (from my archives, kits in the boxes may not be all of those pictured, but some of them will be in the boxes).
These are the contents of most of those boxes, less the kits I built after I got them and the kits he built since he got them from me.. There's plenty more like these in the boxes too !
The last box is a box of the kits he wanted me to build for him, he packed the box and labelled it as kits for me, his family decided I may as well have those kits too..I can hear him laughing his head off upstairs in whatever modellers paradise he's found himself in. Curse him and his keeping lists of the kits he'd got and where he'd got them from, got me back a beauty he has ! He'd know I won't get shot of them again, cos he gave/left them to me, the old rotter ! He knew me well enough to know what my reaction would be too, the stinker ! He wouldn't be at all offended by the names I've called him either (nor the other names I'll call him later on, in private !) π€«As I said, he's up there somewhere, killing himself laughing at the predicament he's dropped me in !
Looks like I'm back in 72nd again (dammit) π€¬with 35th for eyestrain relief purposes...
Ah well, I can see the funny side of it.π.. When he got me back (as he always did), it'd be by dropping me right in it, from a great height..π Thank goodness this is the last time he'll be able to do that to me ! π
Best Gomez of reconfigging the desk to build these lil' boogers...ππ.. At least I won't need to buy kits for a while !

Did he ever ! π
Its funny, but I'm still NOT laughing ! ππ€«
His son was expecting an explosion of expletives deleted from me when I saw what was in the boxes, til I told him I knew, because the boxes had come from me originally, it was me who had bagged the kits and packed the boxes, prior to moving up here. I haven't opened the box of the new AFV kits he'd wanted me to build for him, it'll be a nice suprise whenever...
I told his son I saw this as his dad's last laugh at me, his dad was known for getting bods back but good and in funny fashion. He said he'd never looked at it like that. There were a few of my built kits in his dad's built collection too, but I told his son I didn't want them back, if I was back in 72nd again, so be it, but it was going to be an entirely new 72nd collection, with no "ghosts from the past" in it, as it is with my 35th collection. His son said he could see the point of that and not to worry, because his dad's collection of built kits was going to be absorbed into his collection of 72nd Aircraft and his son's collection of 72nd AFV's...So the entire built collections survive intact.
My next problem is where to store this windfall bounty - guess I'll have to start building the boogers as soon as I've reconfigured the desk -I'm putting a 3ft return on it at present, to be the paint area - lit by natural daylight only, gives me something to do in the morning sunlight.
Best Gomez (resigned to being back in 72nd again π) ππ

Had an idea re some of the kits...
Rang his son today, asked him if he knew what was in the aircraft boxes, he said he'd seen his dad's listings and was a tad jealous because some of the kits (particularly the Modelsvit and Mach 2 varieties) were a bit too expensive for him. Told him no need for jealousy, if he could use them, he could have them all with my compliments. I'm much more into AFV's these days (pretty much always have been, ever since my dear old mum had given me an Airfix Sherman one xmas), and the aircraft were of no real interest to me.
He was stunned.. wasn't expecting that at all. I told him his dad wouldn't mind on the grounds that he'd always said "You never waste a good model" which is why a fair few of my built 72nd aircraft and AFV's were and will be remaining in his dad's (now his), collection.
He thanked me profusely and said he'd be over tonight to collect them..
The end is blatantly obvious "And we're all going to live far happier ever after", would you believe (-whew ! π)

His brother came over last night and collected the Modelsvit and Mach 2 items, (all things I couldn't be less interested in actually). I also offered him his choice of the rest of the aircraft kits and lost a few more kits (twin and 4 engine bombers, again items of total disinterest on my part) These days, I'm only interested in single or twin engine fighters of a WW2 and just post war nature.
I'll be building a couple of the tanks soonish, based mainly on my paint stocks (rather sparse at present, my paint locker badly needs a restock),so it won't be a suprise to hear the items in question are WW2 German in nature, from his box of kits he wanted me to build.. He was right in saying I probably hadn't seen the kits in that lot, in the case of the two I've selected, I knew Dragon had released the kits, had seen them online at my usual onliner, but hadn't got around to getting them, I do have equivalents in 35th, and will get to the 35ths in due course, but at present I'll be concentrating on the 72nds, They take up far less space when built, most of them come in boxes way bigger than the built kits.
