Dunno about awesome actually... 🤫
As long as I get em built as per instructions, with all bits in the right places (the instructions can be misleading at times, the tinier the part, the harder to determine its location in the instructions at times), hopefully the finished items will come up looking alright. That and they'll do me. 🤫
Teeny almost no-see-um parts make life difficult with these lil floatys 🤯🤬, luckily for me, time is not a factor

Sprue Brothers has been having more sales lately, so I picked up these: The book is a very useful reference; much of the photo coverage is from Iraq and Afghanistan. The AFV Club kit has been around for a while, and gotten decent reviews. Why these? Well, word around the campfire is that we just supplied eighty-odd Strykers of several variants to Ukraine including this one, and just yesterday their MoD released a video showing a pair (IFV and Engineer vehicle) bombing along down a muddy road in a training exercise, overall CARC green with a white three-digit tactical number on the back. My guess is that Ukraine might have about eight of these Mobile Gun System rigs. Why? The total numbers supplied indicate enough to re-equip two Motor Rifle Regiments (battalions, in our system). That's thirty infantry carriers and a command vehicle per regiment, and probably a platoon each (three vehicles) of ATGM carriers, 120mm mortar carriers, and assault guns (these M1128s). Plus a few spares for attrition replacement. The video showed no slat armor, ubiquitous in Iraq and Afghanistan. That's good, because the kit doesn't have any. The kit also doesn't have a feature that's now universal on Strykers, and that's an A/C unit on the side plumbed through the engine compartment. The original cold-water cooling vests proved totally inadequate, so A/C was retrofitted. The book has some really good images. There's one hurdle to overcome, which is that the face of the A/C box has six round fan grilles on it. In addition to working out overall dimensions, I'll have to source something close for the fan grilles. My gut tells me that detail parts for HO or N scale locomotives might be the ticket. Time will tell. For now this goes in the stash while I do more research. The US Army retired these things last year; they are cramped as a result of the reduced hull height aft of the engine/driver's compartment and have only 18 rounds in the autoloader carousel for the M68A2 105mm gun. Reloading that means exiting the vehicle. It also has stability issues if operating on sloped terrain with the gun traversed to the side. But for Ukraine, these are much better than nothing and the gun can certainly punch through anything up to the T-80 series of Russian tanks. Hunting those isn't the mission, but you never know what you might encounter on the battlefield.

These arrived on Friday: I'm sure I've mentioned these guys before, but Tichy Train Group has all manner of stuff that scratch builders will find useful. These rivet heads, for example, in several sizes, and also a bunch of different nut/bolt/washer combinations. These four packs have enough rivets to last through several projects and cost with shipping was just $21.

How do you handle those tiny parts without losing them?

How do you handle those tiny parts without losing them? Some of them do go astray, but they're cheap enough to shrug off the loss of a few. The stalks are meant to be inserted in drilled holes, but I usually just cut the heads off and apply those with a fine brush dipped in liquid glue. An Optivisor is a must for this if you have eyes of a certain age (over 50; I'm pushing 61).

Awesome scores guys! Recently I received some late birthday money, so I set out to get a few things I'd been putting off. First was these two kits I picked up on sale at Hobbylink Japan: 1/72 scale Scimitar Mk.2: ...and this 1/72 scale Ford Model A car: And since my compressor went on the fritz and I was afraid the repair cost was going to be high; I bought something I wanted for awhile: a more powerful, longer lasting portable airbrush from Spraygunner: I got that on sale, and they even threw in an extra airbrush cleaning kit! Then at Hobby Day Monday this past couple days, a friend of mine who realized he was not going to be building and painting models anymore brought in all this for me. All of this was given to me for FREE!! First is this old school Dremel and old school soldering iron: Next was something I had been wanting for quite some time now: I finally have a decent spray booth: Oh, did I mention it was collapsible and portable? That was the booth in the closed, portable condition, here it is all opened up: Brand spanking new, never been used. Speaking of never been used, He also gave me a big box containing in part, these three airbrushes. One is a single action external mix suction feed brush like a Paasche. It has a .8 needle in it. The next one is a double action, gravity feed with a .3 needle in it, followed by another double action, gravity feed brush with a .2 needle in it! All are still in the original boxes! This also included an extra air hose and an instruction booklet on how to airbrush. Yes I will be keeping that and reviewing it occasionally. Each airbrush also includes an adapter to attach to any air hose available: The other part of that big box contained this brand new, never-been-used compressor, along with a an instruction booklet and an airbrush holder that fits on the compressor. An extra addition not in the box is the airbrush cleaning pot that he gave me, along wit a couple things not shown: a large bottle of airbrush cleaner and a smaller bottle of sewing machine oil: Wow, Maddog Manufacturing got quiet the upgrade thanks to a great friend! I can't wait to finish organizing the Hobby Room so I can break in all these fantastic new tools! God is good!!
