I started another build and this time it's heavier than the ridiculous looking R35 char which I finished recently. This is a Panther Ausf. D with Zimmerit applied in the field. Production of the D had stopped before the introduction of the anti magnetic paste in the factories. They were therefor not much seen in action and logically reference photos are hard to find. This is where I'm at... To make a D2 turret type I had to add an ammo loader's hatch and three small arms fire ports. I also detailed the kit smoke dischargers with wiring and smoke charges. Some battle damage. And filler to get rid of small gaps. Extra Zimmerit made with Magic Sculpt. I won't use the side skirts or Schürzen. The mud flaps look better with a little damaged Zimmerit.
Paint soon to be airbrushed on.

Been doing a little more. The tarp was partially resculpted as it was originally for a Dodge WC.

Hello guys, I'm glad you're in for this build. I won't go for a camo pattern, plain dark yellow it is this time, however I'll try to keep it interesting tru colour modulation. The grey plastic was given a gloss white coat as a start.

Hello guys, the Panther was given different shades of a dark yellow I mixed as I think Tamiya's dark yellow is too dark to make it look interesting. I added flat flesh to it and gloss white to alter the colour. I airbrushed the turret first, as it captures the brightest shades. I then went on with the hull. Not the most liked part during the painting process, however with the colour modulation I enjoyed the different steps. A pinwash was applied to all the nooks and crannies, which took me four hours. The next day a yellow ocre filter was applied to enhance contrast. The steel parts were painted in different shades of grey, the spare tracks will be further coloured in another stage.

Time to add dry mud, dust and dirt to the wheels. There's a lot of these.

This thing is looking great! What's your process for adding dirt to road wheels?

This thing is looking great! What's your process for adding dirt to road wheels? Duckyshot, I make a mixture consisting of AK European earth pigments +AK dust deposits (enamel) + spackle. It's dabbed into nooks and crannies and given more colour and depth with earth coloured washes (oils burnt umber + ultramarine blue).
