Sorry for the somewhat long layoff in contributions, but the holidays were quite hectic and the first couple weeks of the new year equally so.
Here's my first project for the new year, Tamiya's classic Flak 36/37 kit.
After a couple weeks of sporadic bench time, I've managed to get the base for the gun completed. I've included photos of legs in both the lowered "fire" and raised "travel" positions. I'm leaning toward displaying this with the wheel carriages attached and might eventually build a heavy half-track prime mover to attach it to.
The only thing to note about the build thus far is that it becomes quickly evident this is NOT up to the standards of Tamiya since the turn of the century. The kit is covered in seam lines, ejector pin marks, and even quite a bit of flash. Thankfully, due to Tamiya's engineering (even back in the 1970's), the vast majority of these problem areas are covered up by subsequent part placement.
Anyway, that's all I have done at the moment...more obviously to come.
Until next time...

Yeah it does have lots of ejection marks... I built it years ago... good start on yours!

Thanks, Joe.
That was my last post made on my old computer before it was physically moved to the modeling room in the house. I'm typing this reply on my new, 16GB RAM, gaming computer while I wait for files to update and download. This is the worst part of getting a new system.
Hope to get back to work on the model next week.

Ah the old Tamiya 88. It is an oldie but still a goodie. I say this having done both the Tamiya 88 and the Dragon 88.
Good start there, Robert.

Darn, it's hard to believe it's been about 6 weeks since I started this kit. This was supposed to be a fairly quick build, but like many things, real life sometimes gets in the way. First I had the complete replacement of my desktop computer. This meant that the photo editing program I'd been using for about 20 years no longer worked. It literally took until today for me to confirm the new program I found will work for me. Then I started going to bi-weekly physical therapy appointments at the VA for my bum hip. In addition to it taking an hour out of those two days, it also meant about an hour of every day was now dedicated to doing the PT exercises between appointments. The last of the regular appointments is tomorrow and then I have a follow-up next week. Anyway, needless to say, model building has slipped a little on my daily schedule of things to get done. However, even with all these setbacks, I have still managed to putter away at the build and continue to make progress. As of yesterday, the basic gun is now finished and I'm about to start working on the front and rear carriage assemblies. Here are two shots, the first showing the metal barrel replacing the butchered plastic one below it and the second photo showing the completed gun itself. Until next time...

Robert, beautiful work! Glad you finally had time to get to this. I know how that is. I was just able to start production again too.

Building models is what ya do with spare time when ya feel like it. Move that up to "I gotta get it done" and it becomes a job which is bad juju. This model is indeed dated but can still build up pretty nice when a bit of care is taken as you've demonstrated above, nice work sir.
How's the PT going is it doing you any good?

How's the PT going is it doing you any good? Thanks for asking, Mark.
Yes and no. It seems to be helping quite a bit (obviously) with flexibility and slightly with the recovery time once the hip becomes inflamed. However, as for actually preventing inflammation, no, it's not really helping much at all. I'm pretty sure that unless or until the bone spurs are removed, that will always be the case.
Cheers...

Talk about raising a thread from the dead! After exactly 10 months (plus one lung infection and one hip replacement surgery), I was finally able to get back to the model bench this week and finished the construction on this build. Here's a shot of the three primary assemblies at this point. These parts will remain separate for painting as will the wheels that are not present. Now that I'm healthy again and back at the bench, I hope to get started painting this in the next couple of days. Until next time...

Looking good! Now you get to paint it!! I have a Bofors 40mm sitting on my bench that I am dreading painting all the nooks and crannies on, so it continues to sit...

Looking good! Now you get to paint it!! Actually, the painting and weathering of this gun is the main reason I started the project. I saw a real color image of a German gun in North Africa and wanted to replicate it. I just hope I can do it justice!
