Got this from HobbyLobby for $22 which also give the decal option for the famous Chow Hound. I mentioned this to one of my buddies and he looked at me with some surprise and said that was his Dad's aircraft which had carried the crew largely unharmed for 26 missions. I looked it up and sure enough there was his Dad, flight engineer/top turret gunner. Naturally, the model will be finished as Chow Hound and go to my buddy when finished. 1970's style modeling here but it can be gotten mostly gap free. Raised panel lines again but not for long as I got out the scriber and freehanded the bottom of the right horizontal stabilizer. This turned out well enough that I'll get out the scribing tape and do the rest of the lines; it'll be much easier to paint and weather when it's all said and done. This is probably gonna eat some serious time Regards, Mark

Right then The panel line scribing did not work out well so that idea went out the window. I'd have a lovely straight line going and suddenly for no obvious reason to me the tool would take a sudden turn away from the tape with poor results. It's obvious I need much more practice with a scribing tool before I apply it to anything I'm serious about. So, progress to date The Brownings provided in the kit are pretty crude so I dressed them up a bit with brass barrels from a Polish outfit called Master Model that I give a 10/10 to for ease to work with, precision, and looks. I did not get over excitable with painting the interior...not only is it gonna be dark in there but everything will be viewed thru 1970's style clear transparencies. Older guys such as myself will know what the latter means Innards in place Fuseslage assembled. Starting in the middle I worked my way around the joint with Tammy Extra Thin quick grab in short sections, and in most places will require nothing more than a quick scrape and buff. I still remember trying to do something like this with the old Testors tube gel no wonder I quit building airplanes I also got the Quickboost engine set for this kit which is kind of a pain to sand and fit but the much finer detailing is worth the effort That's it for now blokes Regards, Mark

Thanks gents I'm still surprised at how much time one can put into an aircraft build and not see much in the way of progress. Here's where it's at now There were some details that were badly out of round on the spine so I drilled them out and scratched replacements. I have no idea what they are but they look proper now Wings and horizantal tail surfaces ready for preshade. This took awhile The Quickboost engines in various stages of painting. Valve rods, oil lines, and spark plug wires yet to be fabricated and installed And and extra goodie. This pretty much means this build will go on a base, something I was considering anyway due to the size of the model I'm probably gonna paint it up in pieces...fuselage, wings, and elevators then assemble it. It looks like the fit will be acceptable and I should be able to fill gaps and paint the areas without too much difficulty. What would be difficult is to assemble the thing and then try to paint it, it's too big to fit in my spray booth and it would be quite clumsy to get around while trying not to break pieces off it. Cheers blokes Regards, Mark

Looks good to me Mark, I spray painted mine olive green and the underside grey in my driveway back in the day and hand painted the tail and wing tips red, ha, ha!!! It is huge... takes up a large part of the shelf above my desk here at the real estate office.

JC I'd thought of doing just that but last week's average temperature was around -2 Earlier I mentioned the Quickboost engines lacked valve rods and there were no oil lines provided either. Some .020 styrene rod and .016 electrical solder were applied resulting in this which was hard to take a picture of, the thing seemed to absorb light rather than reflect it. Only three more to go Regards, Mark

Looking good Mark... we were in single digits last week also with a couple lows below 0...
I used copper wires on my engines, and tic tac mints for the air tanks in the fuselage painted yellow, lol!!! Whatever works... alls fair in modeling!!!

I guess admitting I'd not been near the bench for a week made me get interested again Finally got all surfaces basecoated Model Masters Neutral Grey and Mission Models USAAF OD. I ended up not preshading since it never seems to make much difference with OD, so I'll do a translucent lighter OD pattern on it instead. I'm glad I knuckled down and ground out the detailing on the Quickboost engines It's gonna be fun getting the wings on; they do not want to slot into the fuselage. More filing and fitting, ho hum Regards, Mark

Looks good. The scratched parts on the spine I believe are bits for the different radio equipment.

Thank you gents Here it is assembled with decals on the decals were pretty difficult to work with for me; I'm not used to them being this big. Propellers done which took quite a bit more time than I thought they would. Flatcoat on and window masks removed which turned out fairly well. In most places the openings were bigger than the transparent parts and that was a gigantic pain. I did not achieve the contrast I'd hoped for and panel lines are pretty much invisible from distances greater than about 16". While I'm not over happy about this I'm gonna accept it as is and move on to the finish even tho I don't think it looks great. Regards, Mark
