Very nice. About the panel lines. The next time try putting a touch of white into the base color and lightly spray the interior of the panels. It should bring out the panel lines.

Thanks gents Joe I'll have to try that Awhile ago I noted one of the wheels for the main landing gear went missing and never turned up so Sprue Brothers supplied me some DEF sagged wheels which are spectacular in looks. Regrettably their method of attachment is weak and somewhat shoddy so I modified the process Figures. Five came with the kit, the other five are from ICM and are some of the best plastic figures I've ever worked with. They are the light grey ones on the left The aircraft is pretty much done I've seen models of B-17's with wires from the fuselage to the vertical stabilizer but I've never seen said wires in pictures of the actual aircraft. Not sure I'll include them. I may try some very subtle exhaust stains over the top of the wing, not sure about that either. Most guys who do this seem to overdo them badly I think. For the lack of a better idea the base will be a concrete surface, the first layer of which is drying as I type this. Still plenty to do but getting the aircraft to an acceptable finish has been accomplished, something I was not sure was gonna happen Regards, Mark

Thank you gentlemen I'm really not unhappy with it I just had a minor pout 'cause it did not turn out like I'd planned. You'd think I'd know better by now I'm working on the peripherals now Aircrew and mechanics primed and ready for paint The little Tammy fuel truck almost complete Kit supplied bomb cart and bombs I'm not sure how accurate that bomb cart is, however it'll have to do. I've got the first pour of Durham's water putty drying on the base, it'll need a top coat of sheetrock mud so I can get some texture on as Durham's cures up harder than a brick. Should have this off the bench soon. Regards, Mark

Excellent work Mark! One suggestion I have for the next time you use Durham's: when it is getting close to dry, yet still sticky, use a coarse brush to add texture to it. Anything too big can be sanded down to a more reasonable texture. Just an idea I once tried.

Thanks gents So all the trouble I've had with a base for this were because of my own self, as usual. I did not want to use wood since any wet concoction such as Durhams will warp the wood no matter how well you try to seal it. So, I got clever and sez "Styrofoam insulation does not warp" and proceeded to use some 1 1/2" foam without stopping to consider foam is flexy. Not surprisingly I had cracks in the pour, edges lifting, and chunks breaking out. Sometimes I am quite dumb for a supposed smart guy. I cured this by knocking all the poured stuff off the foam, scoring joint lines on the surface, and putting the paint to it. Should have just done this in the first place. It's some cheap grey craft paint with Tammy XF-20 airbrushed on the joints, then cloud patterned with Model Masters acrylic Aged Concrete Oil splotches courtesy of Model Masters acrylic Aircraft Flat Black with lotsa water in it. There was no way I was gonna use enamels on this, if they melted the foam the language would have seared the house and I'd have been grouchy for a week. One of the disadvantages of such a large project is that it's hard to take pictures of On the other hand having to get so far away to photograph it hides all my mistakes Crew/mechanics figs in progress Regards, Mark

Thanks brother DONE Since the model was going on a foam base and the contact patch was small I decided to reinforce things a bit and here's the final product Another one or two like this and I'll feel ready to start the expensive Tammy F-4B I acquired awhile ago Regards, Mark
