Ah but you may say there was no such thing, and you'd be right. But there coulda been..... So having picked this up for a $2 raffle ticket, the question soon arose, why didn't the IDF have a SPAAG? Would have come in handy a few times I think. So more thinkin' and a "what-if" is born. Starting with this:  IMG_2503 by Russel Baer, on Flickr It took a couple of hours to get this far,  IMG_2502 by Russel Baer, on Flickr ....using Merkava parts from Tamiya and Academy. I took an extra Merk turret lower half, cut the hole for the Type 87 turret, flipped it over and glued it to the upper hull, giving me the slightly raised turret ring area I needed. The rest is nutz 'n boltz. |

This is a fun build, no worries about "accuracy", so I'm just filling in the blanks, so to speak. I detailed up the turret ring, thinking a big adaptor would be called for, and have the hull nearly finished, anti-slip is next, but for now started adding lots of tiny detail parts to the turret. I'm kind of jazzed. What a difference your booth makes on your shots! Long overdue, believe me. I'm kind of amazed myself, especially since it's nothing but a medium sized cardboard box with two sides removed. I even took the pics in the model room, using the available ambient lighting. I need to dig out my little tripod though. Next step is to register as a seller on eBay and move out some of my built models, make some room for new stuff, and maybe even fund my hobby too. I have three display cases that are getting kind of crowded. |

I had an "aw slip" moment.... I was just starting to spray the base color and thought: "Dang it, it needs anti-slip". An hour with some Mig anti-slip paste and bingo:  IMG_2618 by Russel Baer, on Flickr I laid some on the turret horizontal surfaces too, next pics will be in color, with a wash. Moving fast, Saturday's coming soon! |

Me too, I would have been sorely upset. No matter anyhootch. Pics today are of the thing with the running gear dirtied up as much as I want, the rest of it just washed but not yet dusted. I still have a few bits to add, and some detail painting to do, but it's so close I can feel it.
