Sorry...... I think I OD'd on OD, had to back off the Shermans and do something else for a bit. Good news is I had two Academy M60A2s in the stash, both bought cheap for parts, but one had the DEF Model upgrade in the box. Score! I was just gonna take a peek in the boxes, but when I saw the DEF box, I got all excited. So using a bunch of leftover Takom bits, I'm actually building one as an M60A2. It's not a great kit, mixed old school hull with some decent turret parts, but I've read that it's closer than the Dragon kit by far, rough compared to the AFV Club kit (is that one even out yet?). Academy did several things "right" this time, revising the aluminum road wheels and supplying the correct air cleaners. There's even some PE included. Turret's fun.... I swapped the kit searchlight out for the DEF part, much better. Thanks all. So onward through the fog.... er, smoke? Too many tiny parts, it took ablut three hours to do two smoke launchers. That's worse then multi-part track links in my book. Curiously, the armored visor for the TC's sight is on the sprue but not mentioned in the instructions, while a molded plastic mantlet dust cover is, but it's not in the box. Weird. More: Turret is about done and I started on the rear hull details. A word on the turret baskets: had I been a smart fella I would have used the PE parts as "fit checkers" as I assembled the baskets. As is, I had a few minor fit issues, all my fault. Academy actually nailed the thing, except that they made the PE to look like perforated steel when it should be mesh, actually expanded metal. Oh well. I'll also have to do some noodling on the rear inner fenders. I'm using Dragon parts for the fenders themselves, and the DEF brass inner fenders won't work as they're made for the Academy kit fenders, natcherlly enough. The Dragon fenders have a tighter radius bend to them, so I'll have to do something else there.
