It certainly has character. Where did they use this model of Tank, last?

All the pics I have show them in Germany, waiting for the Russians to come. They were not shared, exported or sold to Allies, so US use only.

Looking really good, Russ!
So...I'm rather clueless about which of the various M60A2 kits is best, other than knowing that the old Tamiya one had some major proportion problems with the turret. If ever I was to do an M60, it would be a Starship...and maybe an M728 CEV. You know these beasts better than I...what's your opinion on the best path forward? Among the recent new-tool kits, whose is best? Inquiring minds and all that.

My opinion? Well... Not often someone actually asks for it, but yup, I've got one. I'd spend some time using a Takom hull and either scratching the CBSS bulge on the lower rear or "adapting" the Academy part, which looked to me to be a pain. I actually did scratch up the access door extensions as I thought the Academy part was a little small, even "dainty". At this point, I regret not taking the time to just man up and use a Takom hull, it's so much better than the ancient Academy/Tamiya hull. On the plus side, Academy DID re-do the aluminum road wheels, getting rid of the exposed poly cap hubs, resulting in a very passable wheel. I'm still okay with using the Academy turret along with the DEF Models upgrade. I haven't seen one in the flesh yet, but I've heard the AFV Club kit is very good, but very complex, still with the heavily overdone hull texturing. I don't know about the turret's texture. Everything I've heard about the Dragon kit is bad: poorly shaped turret, simplifications of turret details, etc. I will say for a fact that the Academy turret has some fit issues along with heavy details, but all it takes is some good ol' modeling skills to fix it. Summation: I think the AFV Club kit would be the best OOB, hands down, but I can build two Takom hulls in the time it takes me to have one AFV Club hull ready to use. I've also got several Academy/Tamiya kits in the stash, along with a bunch of AM, so I'll still be using them for weird stuff and conversions. I really like building (witness the many models I currently have waiting to be painted or weathered) but there are times when I want to move along a little faster (so I can start the next one!).

Nice conglomerate there I don't think I could keep such a build straight
I have the AFV Club A2 and yes it seems to be a well detailed kit. Haven't started it yet so word's not in on fit yet...I can say it's gonna be complex
Regards, Mark

I'll be watching the -A2 Mark, I'm curious. I built the -A1 last year, tedious but good. I spent a fair amount of time "fixing" the texture. So, ready for paint: IMG_1185 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_1184 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_1186 by Russel Baer, on Flickr I need to add the antenna mount and mast, something not mentioned in the Academy instructions, but that's it. I think this is the first Academy kit I've ever seen that had weirdness (mantlet cover shown in the instructions but not in the kit and the omitted antenna mount).

It does look kinda grey green, so it is most likely the photo itself that is off color.
I do love the smooth look on this beastie though. Nicely done!
