The age old question, how long is a piece of string? Just a little shorter than I need it to be...... So I fixed something that had been bugging me, namely the FDA on the early tank. When I first started the hull, way back when the Earth was still cooling, I think I intended to build a very late VVSS M50, hence the cast FDA. Since I went the other way, I felt I should have a 3-piece cover on there, so after digging around,, I found the last MP cover I had, and after an evening of hackery, it's almost done: I feel better now.

Nice touch, using one of the first Transmission cover styles.

Gotta keep it "olde"..... Since both of these tanks were built from M4A4 hulls, and the M4A4 as originally built only received the three-piece trans/final drive housings, I wanted to make these as accurate as possible. After a few years in service and some reman and update programs, it became quite common to see cast FDA covers on very early hulls, and even weirder, 3-piece covers on late hulls. There's a pic floating around somewhere of an M51 on a big-hatch M4A1 hull with a 3-piece FDA, something else I'd love to build sometime. Here's what it looks like now, with MrSurfacer on: IMG_5881 by Russel Baer, on Flickr

In the Black Country an area in the Midlands they use a word Bostin, pretty much the same as Boss

"Boss" was a term I used a lot as a kid, way back when the Earth was still cooling..... So: I'll get some work done soon, I hope, getting over the Covid here, down to just headaches which make wearing my Optivisor VERY uncomfortable. Goofy, plenty of time now to model, being off work and all, and I just don't feel like it.

Pics! Both of these turrets are getting close, using a complete mixture of available parts. Oddly enough, a Tamiya loader's hatch fit perfectly in both the Dragon and MP turrets, quite surprising to me. The MP kit hatch was rough, while the TC's hatch was a short-shot, but a Dragon hatch went right in. The Dragon turret got an Academy TC cupola assembly, again a drop-in, lucky me. Grab handles are either brass or soft steel wire. IMG_5939 by Russel Baer, on Flickr

I think I'm going to have to scratchbuild some smoke dischargers, or maybe just some mounts, for one of these. I have one full set of four that match, then two other partial sets of three each. It's an opportunity, right? I have pics of tanks on exercise with no tubes mounted, just the "empty" mounting brackets, so it was apparently pretty common, and the mount is just a big block with a hole.....
