I have a project I want to work on. I need narrow masking tape. I had looked on eBay but the prices there didn't strike me as being that good. I went to Amazon and found what I think would be good for what I need. I ordered two rolls of two different widths. The seller makes their own tape and they showed in stock. I placed my order on the 26th of April. It showed a tracking number on the 28th and a delivery date no later than yesterday the 6th of May. Not being familiar with Amazon I dug around until I found the actual tracking number. I put it in the USPS tracking and it has not shipped yet!
Kinda makes me want to not use Amazon anymore.

I now am leary of Amazon vendors too, the only good thing is Amazon will get you the money back if you do have a problem... read the reviews... Walmart has the same issue on their website as they also have vendors, they are all ebay's in my opinion, you really don't know anything about the sellers as they are hiding behind a big name. Buyer beware!

You have to remember, how many companies have been hit by lack of personnel in their warehouses and shipping because of the lock down. Lets keep this in perspective during these times and not bash companies. Otherwise......... go ahead.

That's a good point Bruce. One I had not thought of. It seems to me that if that is the case they may have at least contacted me to let me know. I would have been good with that. Unless they have some sort of an automated shipping department that marks items as shipped when they are not someone would have had to mark my order as shipped, with a tracking number. That would lead me to believe at least someone was there. Which goes back to if the company is shut down they could have let me know my order would be delayed.
Or, then again, maybe I am still looking at it wrong.

Yeah, lack of capacity to process stuff is worth considering. I ordered a pair of Tamiya's 1/35 scale M10C Achilles kits from a Hong Kong vendor of April 23. Tracking information shows it being sorted through the Chinese postal system with various milestones, leaving the country on the 29th. On April 30th, it shows import customs cleared and arrival at destination port. Probably somewhere in Los Angeles or San Francisco, and the short transit time indicates that the shipment arrived in the US by air. Nothing since then; it has been sitting at the "destination port" for a week.

I had an order from Hong Kong that sat in Los Angeles for a month before they released it to me according to tracking... I actually got refunded the money for the kit from the manufacturer when I asked them where it was 4 weeks later and had not received it... It was an Amazon seller. When it did show up finally I let them know and they told me for the issue just keep it for free as they had written it off as lost already. I thought that was strange as I did offer to pay for it when it did finally show up.

And as of this morning, my guess as to location was way off. At 10:47 last night, it left the destination port facility in New Jersey. My shipment flew right into the maelstrom of the pandemic, which is probably why it sat as long as it has. At least it is moving now, and should be here early next week.

I contacted the seller. Posted below is what I wrote. It says it may take 2 business days to get a reply. Since this is Friday night I figure I should hear back Tuesday. I will give it a day or so more, just to be reasonable. I will post here what their reply is, when and if, I get one.
Hi, I had purchased two rolls each of two of your tapes. Two in 1/64 width and two in 1/32. They showed in stock. I made my purchase on the 26th of March. There was a shipping label created on the 28th of March. They have not moved. Will I receive these items, was my order lost in your system, were they not in stock and you will need to cut them at some point, are you closed because of the virus? I'd like to know the status of my order. An update would be appreciated. Thank you, Jim

That is a perfectly fine query, Jim. Just a simple status inquiry with an acknowledgement that there are other variables in motion here beyond the usual random shipping issues.

I believe the old saying that "You catch more flys with honey than you do with vinegar" beekster. No reason to rant and rave.
When I was sending the message it said that it goes through Amazon as they do not give my email address to the seller. I would think they have it on record JCON. I also get a message from Amazon saying they are sorry it is arriving late as it shows it should have been delivered on the 6th.

Well then...I received this response from the seller:
No you should have recived that order long ago. Ill check why? but will reship Monday and send a extra roll free on both sizes for the mishap with the post office. Woot! This has made me do a 180 on Amazon sellers. At least this seller.
The odd thing is the tracking number shows no movement at all. The only reason that comes to mind is it may be possible that the letter carrier "misplaced" the package before they scanned it into their system. It should be a smallish packet and may have fallen out of whatever they use to pick up at that location. Being the company I ordered from is a business, I would guess that there are a number of such packets that the USPS would pick up every day.
Cool beanies though.

Just an FYI as I deal with Amazon a lot (35 orders last year alone). Right now, even though I have Amazon Prime, which should get me 2-day free shipping, ALL of my recent orders have been held a minimum of 7 days before shipping. Why? Because the items were not on Amazon's "Essential" items list. If the products aren't food, personal care products, non-prescription medication, and a few other categories, they fall into this delay void.
Don't know if this is the case with your stuff, just no one mentioned the delays yet.

Don't believe so Rob. I ordered Tamiya paint from 4 different Stores and am waiting for the last one still. Different places have different logistical problems.

Essential shipping only applies to the products directly shipping out of Amazon warehouses. Their vendors ship whenever they want from their own facility, whether it's their home or place of business.

Your products get scanned multiple times in the pick up to delivery cycle. A tracking number was generated when the seller called or ordered a pickup online, if there is no other info it was never picked up by the carrier as they scan it on pickup immediately... if the seller took it to the post office it also would be scanned immediately as arrived at the P.O., all of this can be tracked once it is in their hands. The P.O. is crazy about scanning that package at ever juncture of its travel to your home by each person who touches it... tons of wasted hours in multiple scans that are required by the upper management who have no idea how much time is wasted in doing this. You have no idea how much quicker you would have your mail and packages if they could just do their job right without all the regulations they have to follow from the muckity mucks...

I was a FedEx delivery driver for a couple years so I am all too familiar with the scanning process . Perhaps I was a bit too hasty. It is also quite possible that my small packet made it's way to somewhere in the tape company's warehouse, if they have one, where it shouldn't have and was lost. Or, it is also possible that the company just dropped the ball and wanted to blame the USPS. I didn't mean to place aspersions on the USPS. I came to my original conclusion based on what the seller said. Please apologize to your wife for me Joe. I meant no undo criticism to her employer. And hey, I'll be getting two rolls of free tape .

Not upset, just no way that happened without a scan had it been delivered to them! We are fine my friend!

USPS gets blamed for a lot of stuff that is not their fault so I stand up for them when it arises if I know the true answer... ha, ha!!!
