I'm starting with this kit: (Actually started in 2010!) It's one of AMT's older re-issues, molded in light blue: The chrome is fairly shiny, too! I'm going after a mild custom look with this one. Thank you for following along.

This part came from an AMT 1965 Thunderbird kit. It is the custom front pan: It fits the front contours of the Impala pretty closely: The big problem is going to be those gaping holes under the headlights! The bulge under the pan didn't seem to fit in with the look, so I shaved it off:

The rear pan is from the Impala kit: It will be molded in to have no seams. The front pan has been trimmed and is being molded into the body: Here, I have started the shaving process. This shows the hood emblem and the windsplit on the driver's side have been eliminated:

Here, you can see the rear pan has been molded in. The side trim will be left intact, as it has "58 Impala" written all over it! Sorry for the fuzzy pic. The front pan has been molded in and the chevrons are gone from the front fender: That's it for now. More to come as I go along with this one.

This will be VERY COOL when finished. The front pan looks like it BELONGS to this kit. And shaving that TUMOR off of the bottom of it makes a world of difference. I will be watching this build. Keep us updated on more of your cool ideas..

Looks good Bucky. I have a number of ideas for the holes. More headlights, some filling and indicators or some mesh.

Finally got back on this one! Been awhile! These seats are from the Monogram '59 Caddy kit. I had to cut down the buckets to fit the Chevy. They were too wide. I put in a plate of styrene and filed it down to look like pipng on the seat. I'm adding styrene rod to the rear seat for piping to match the front. The console is from the '58 Impala kit. The shifter is a straight pin with a couple bends in it. Gotta a lot more to do on this.one. I did work on the 348 engine a little, but not enuff to merit any pics.

I grabbed these off ebay. Nice detail, a little flash on a couple of the center parts. Pretty nice Michelin tires. Feel more like rubber than vinyl. After carefully cleaning off the flash, (these are delicate center sections!) I superglued the wheels together inside the tires. A little mockup for ya.
