Are you ready? Eight parts make up the lower hull. Checking the fit of the upper hull. Can't get no better than that, how sweet it is. Tony lee

Nice kit Tony!! I did Tasca's VC Firefly and it was a great kit. BTW - that doesn't look like a SPG.

Hey guys, I hate to say so but this really is quite unremarkable. Not Tony's efforts, you understand, but the kit itself. Every Tasca/Asuka Sherman fits just as precisely as this one does. They are the best-engineered Sherman kits on the market. Tamiya's recent M51 and M4A3E8 kits are a pretty close second, and Tamiya's example of the Sherman's cousin M10 is right in there too. Everybody else is an also-ran, IMO. Asuka misses a weld seam here and there on various kits, and this one misses the little hole in the glacis where the drain for the ventilator exits (easily hidden by stowage or spare track), and the Fireflies could use a little extra work on the radio box weld seams. That's about it for squawks; that and the taillights that I've covered in my Sherman ARV Mk. 1 thread.

Here's an idea for you Tony and Joe, all of us old LEMurs with beers in our hands sitting around a table with beekster and Shermie discussing Sherman attributes. What a night that would be.

Sounds like a fun evening, Cliff. The only problem, as I see it, is geography. This internet thing connects us all in its own way, but most of us are hundreds of miles apart. I think that Joe up in eastern Washington is one of the closer members to me (Portland area) and he must be a good five or six hours drive from me. Seattle is three hours away, Tri-Cities is four, Port Townsend is four, Bend is three, and Medford is five. Vancouver BC is six on a good day, with moderate Seattle traffic and a quick border chat. Makes hitting a good brewpub together rather difficult.

Boy I really do like the look of the Firefly. I've got a couple in my stash. Them and Tigers love them to. Nice work so far.

Update I just suffered my first traumatic experience while building a model. Those bogies are a real challenge, every part but the rollers are handed and not glued, only the main housing across the top is glued, and trying to hold everything in place and or putting in place will take you to the very edge of insanity. The Easy Eight bogies were a walk in the park compared to this one. I had to hold my tongue because of the birds,NOT EASY folks. Tony lee

The Asuka VVSS are a bit fiddly, but they get easier with practice. Did you use the foam spacers inside? I don't; I prefer to use a strip stock shim inside to set the ride height. The shim ensures that all the volute springs inside sit at the same level in the channel, and the gudgeon arms will all sit at the same angle when the tank is level. The suspension still fully articulates, of course, so you can pose it on uneven ground in a diorama. The only time you want to build these showing the springs compressed and the gudgeon arms closer to level is when modeling a heavy variant like the Jumbo or up-armoured tanks, which tended to be nose-heavy, or if you are building a brewed-up tank (heat softens springs, they collapse) or a derelict decades after the war.
