I guess now i'll need to get back there and finish claiming back my bench room also gather up the many bottles of OD I have of different brands. This Firefly was a different shade of Green I think and not OD? ? Tony lee It would have been finished in British SCC 15, which was their version of Olive Drab. The color was very, very close to OD, perhaps with a touch more green hue to it. It definitely faded to a greener hue than US Olive Drab, but there would have been no appreciable fading during WW2. Conversions to Fireflies started in January of 1944, but the use of M4/M4 Composite hulls was slow to develop, closer to autumn of 1944. So, much of the service time of any Firefly IC would have been through gloomy winter months and on to the end of the war with none of the long-term exposure to intense sunlight that would fade paint.

Well I got back there in the hobby room and cleaned it up so I could move around at least,I'll gather up my OD's tomorrow. You guys are right I counted eight Sherman based builds that need painting. Hope I don't come down with a case of Green Lung Tony lee

Thanks Beek. I had plans to add a little green to the OD but hadn't figured out what Green, light, dark or maybe a touch of Nato Green even. Any suggestions? Tony lee If you are going to add a bit of green, darker is probably better. I use enamels, and there isn't a readily available OD that is correct. Model Master's 34087 Olive Drab is too light and too green; their Olive Drab ANA 613 is an Army Air Forces color and too dark. I've taken to mixing my own using RLM 81 Braunviolett and Panzer Dunkelgelb '43. The RLM 81 has been discontinued, but I've stocked up a dozen bottles of it so far and will continue to look for more. To see what this kind of mix can look like, see my M3A1 CDL thread and my completed Shermans thread that has the Skink in it. Both have been painted with this mix, which is different every time because I rely only on the Mark One Eyeball and mix until I like what I see.

I get the impression people don't really care for the build phase and only care about the painting. I like to see the building because it clarifies placement of parts and how they fit that the instruction fail to do often. Well i'll be painting here pretty soon and I hope I don't disappoint ya. Later folks Tony lee

I like both phases equally well. To me it's very interesting to see how you Guys follow or don't follow the instructions, solve fit issues and deal with missing or mystery parts.

I'm one who like the building best...painting is where models go to be screwed up, in my personal experience. The finished product usually doesn't quite capture the vision I had in my head, even after doing this for the better part of five decades (age 55 now; started at 8). I really like the photos I have of a finished model before the paint process, especially a scratch-built or extensive conversion. Seeing the multiple colors of the various materials used appeals to me.
