Gents,
I've been watching a few utubes on static grass and making the dispenser, easy enough. But, where are yall getting the static grass? I see Scenic Express has a whole load of different sizes, colors, etc. But, it's a bit overwhelming if you don't knowing exactly what you are looking at, or for.
Can yall shed some light on your experiences or do you even use a dispenser in our scales, etc, etc.
Cheers, Ski.

I get mine from various sources Ski, it all depends on the length of grass I want. I don't worry about the colour as it always gets sprayed. As for a dispenser I don't usually use one but for long grass, say 6mm or longer I use a modified fly swatter thing with a tea leaf strainer fixed to the end that gives the grass a static charge so it stands up when it falls to the base.

Thx for the intel Pete, sounds like I'll just need to build up an inventory. I think I will go ahead with making a dispenser, kinda like what you're talking about. thx Bro.
Joe, I'll be checking on that, sounds like I need to hold off till we see what's in stock in SPK. Hope to see ya there Carl.
Thx for the input Gents, Ski.

Steve, As for sourcing, I agree with those who've mentioned model railroad stores and sites. If you build in 1/35 scale, another GREAT site is called Scenic Express (click on the link) because they cater not only to the model railroader, but also diorama builders. In particular, they create an excellent product called "Silflor" grass and sell it in tufts, clumps, and complete mats that can be cut to shape and glued down...a REAL time-saver. Traditional (loose) static grass was originally developed to cover large areas of railroad displays. Because of this, using these products with the same dispensers and applicators as the railroad modelers use can be a little problematic...unless your models are 1/72 scale or smaller. My personal experience is that in 1/35 scale, sprinkled on static grass looks good as a "putting green", but it's too short and doesn't have sufficient variation to look realistic (once again, IMHO). This is why I like the Silflor grass mentioned above. I'm also a bit of a nut-case, but if you look at the grass in my completed diorama "Tribute to the Timberwolves", EVERY bit of that static grass was applied in clumps using a pair of tweezers, one clump at a time!!! I don't really know if this help you at all, but there you go...

I use a balloon rubbed on a jersey. Hover that over the static grass once its been sprinkled onto the white glue that ive brushed onto the required spot.
Ive only used it on small areas, and havnt had any problems.

Ah Wes, the balloon trick, forgot about that one, seen it done before. It works. Thx for the link Robert, always good stuff at Scenic Express. I just found this too; www.thescenicfactory.com/category_s/1942.htm I will look over your dio this afternoon, this particular computer won't let em see it right now, bummer. Yes Ian, I was thinking about buying one, but a quick conversion might do the trick. It's a rather simple process. Thx for the input Gents!
