Guess I lost track of this
Steve the pistol is a Glock 40 in 10mm Auto and yes, potentially inimical wildlife. This part of the world is inhabited by grizzly bear, black bear, cougar, wolf, coyote, wolverine, badger, and lots of rattlesnakes and since all are faster, stronger, and meaner than myself I never go into wild country without at least a big bore handgun
Washington guys I lived for five years west of Olympia on the Totten inlet and spent quite a bit of my spare time in the Olympic Mountains; a spectacular place to say the least. My favorite spot up there was a rock knife edge that got you above the trees. Looking east you could see the Cascade volcanoes from Baker to St. Helens and when you turned to the west you could see the Pacific. Never went to the Cascades much, they crawled with folks of the sort I generally don't get along with.
Today I went up to Nye and the Benbow trail with the intent of getting some solstice sunset pictures. Didn't work out, got chased off by a very energetic thunderstorm but I was able to get a few good shots of Granite peak

When I saw this I decided it was time to leave

High rocky peaks are no place to be when lighting decides to show up

I've lived out here, near Lake Cushman, at the base of Mt. Elenor and Mt. Washington for the last 22 years. It is paradise.

Of all the places I've seen in Montana so far Glacier National Park is the most sceienic. Can't ride ATV's there tho.
Oz that means I drove by your place often while on my way to crawl up Mt. Elenor, a bi-annual event for me while I was out there. 'Twas a long, steep and exhausting walk but worth every drop of sweat for the view. From there Lake Cushman looks about the size of a quarter and Seattle is a tiny little grey spot on the edge of the water. Did the staircase a few times as well. I am probably a bit too old for all of that now but at least I got there when I had the opportunity

Making me jealous here dude! Now I want an ATV and a least a hill. It's so flat here in Indiana that if we stand up on our couch, we can see to Illinois.

Scott in 1991 I spent eight months in Ft. Wayne working for F. A. Bartlett doing utility line tree clearance and I gotta say the flat ground got to me bad. Never did get used to it; had to flee back to New England even tho I really liked the people out there.

It's all I've known unfortunately sometimes. I've always had my "dream" property in mind, but this flat land would mean I'd have to dig a bunch of dirt out or haul a bunch in. However, for a poor country boy like me, it's home and this is where I'll be until I'm not a po' boy anymore!

We used to visit there all the time. There's a lake in the area known as Crystal Lake. My grandmother's 2nd cousins owned a cabin on the lake and my grandfather restored it from the ground up. When the main administrator of the cabin died, the kids fought over it and we've never been allowed back.

I spent two winters (and summers) in the Jackson/Lansing area of Michigan....in a 29 foot travel trailer! Cold winters, for sure, but the summers can be quite humid, also!
