How 'bout a tow??

Started another project:


Gonna build this one into a tow truck. Here's what's in the box:


I found the intake in this shape. Should be an easy fix, tho:


I tossed it along with some other parts in the bleach for some unchroming work:


This stuff was gone in about ten minutes!! Never had chrome disappear that fast!
The kit is a 3-in-1...tow truck, stakebed, pro street. I thought I might kit-bash my own version and use the tow boom on the stakebed:


Modellingmonkey is wondering if I've flipped my lid!
The rear fenders have to go for the stakebed to fit right:


Operation is a success!!

Here's a little mockup of the main body parts:


I think the flatbed looks a little more sturdy for a tow truck.
The trailing arm came out of the box not so straight. I'll remedy that:


I removed them both and used some white stuff to replace them, and make them a little more beefy:


I added a piece of angle to the leg braces. The kit pieces seemed a bit lonely by themselves!


I also took a piece of square tube and notched it out to fit betwee the main legs of the boom:


Helps the boom look more heavy duty.
I'll be using the flathead V-8 engine from the kit.
The plug wires run through a tube from the distributor to the plugs.
I fabricated two of these, and drilled them for wires:


The green wires are for demo only. The wires on the truck will be black.
That's it for now. Back to cleaning up parts and seeing what I can stick together!
