This is the beginning of a project that I've been thinking of doing for a while- starting a collection of 1/32 scale cars. When I started building models, in the early 60's, 1/32 scale kits were .49 a pop, and I built (and rebuilt) dozens of them. Pyro was a major player in this market, with a wide variety of automotive subjects, as well as non-automotive. I thought it would be fun to build up some of these kits , again, to see if I can do any better now than I did then. Another reason I'm interested in these kits, is that there are pre-war cars available that weren't done in other scales- even pre-WWI. Another reason ( as if I needed one) is economics of scale: they're cheaper to buy, and take up less storage and display room. This is actually the third Pyro "desk top series" kit I started- the first 2 were "short shots", with critical pieces missing or incomplete.
The kit had been started, and required partial dis-assembly. Fortunately, little glue was used
The multi piece body will be done in 3 sections (rear, cowl/doors, and hood) to facilitate painting

Going to watch this build, my first model that go me started in the hobby was a 1/32 Cord Convertable. Forgot to put the front fenders on and thought it was cllo that way...I also remember the $.49 price tag, also remember 1/25 kits for $1.25 & $.97. I saw a reissue of one of them recently and almost choked !!!! $25.99!!!! Even looked like the same tooling of the 50-60- Can't wait to see your progress here... ED

This kit has a copyright of 1967. I would have been 10 years old, at that time, and my model building money came from working on local farms for 50 cents an hour! Every weekend I'd hitch a ride with my mother, when she went to the grocery store, so I could go to the 5&10 to buy a model or two. Now, it's hard enough to pay $25 for a domestic kit, but some of the foreign kits I want are 2-4 times that! That's probably one of the incentives to build some of these kits again; brings back memories of being 10 years old again.

Another one that's in limbo right now. I painted the wheels, but the oversize spokes make the whole kit look bad. Until I can come up with a solution (that doesn't involve filing each spoke!), this one's back in the box.

That's too bad, Tom! An interesting build that a lot of modelers won't get to see very often. My first model, at the age of 8, was a 1/32 scale Studebaker Lark with a rubber band drive!! It was produced by Hawk models.
