Ahem ! Sorry re the absence, my other modelling life has intervened.🙄.. Hummel's back in its box, nothing more done on it since the last photos/update...
At present, my desk is covered with 00 scale locomotives belonging to a large exhibition layout, which hasn't been exhibited in years... As Locomotive Supervisor for that layout (a position I've always held, nobody else is mad enough) 😆 its my job to make sure they're all running as they should be, bit of time required on each of them because none of them has turned a wheel (in anger or otherwise)l in ages. The layout concerned is being gradually re-erected and having its track and scenery put to rights as well, time does many and varied levels of damage to stored layouts (luckily the shed it was stored in has kept the rain out over the years)...Even so, several boards need replacement (we'll probably be able to save the tops, plus the track and wiring, just build new sides/ends/crossmembers to fit under them..We'll also need to replace several sets of legs (not all on the boards that need replacing).
I'm also ferreting out the locomotives in my collection which used to run on that layout. They're full of dried out grease/oil and the dust of the ages as well as a few suprises (insect eggshells, dead spiders, cockroaches etc;) Oh well...🥱
We're looking at bringing it back onto the show circuit next March, everybody concerned has more than enough on their plates with things to do for the layout until then...(I have no idea who's idea it was to bring it back out either, think somebody might have become tired of paying to get into shows).

Now this will be great to see. I just started a German railroad flatcar from WWII holding an anti-aircraft gun, and Beekster is doing rail subjects too. Must be something in the air....

Sounds like an exciting project, and a fairly large one, to boot! Post up some photos of this endeavor! I'm sure there are several of us here that would love to see them.

Sorry, can't help with layout photos, apart from the locos, I had nothing to do with the thing in the past, nor do or will I have anything to do with it now. Apologies again, please re-read that post using the word "they're" instead of "we're", my mistook, for which I do apologise, I made it clear that I'd see what I could do to bring the locos back to life for them,(nothing much goes wrong with those old clunkers that can't be fixed with a thorough clean-up of the working parts and a little bit of tweaking here and there), but that was the extent of any interest I could (or would), have in the project, for reasons of a personal nature, nothing nasty, but the project does not interest me at all. they understood that without any further need for explanation on my part. Same fee (free) for all loco work as before and same conditions (let me know when its next required for a show and you'll have it back before the date in thorough and smooth (as smooth as I can get it) working order. Guaranteed til it stops working.
I'm doing this as a favour to one of its longtime crewmen, who was also on the crew of most of my exhibition layouts, known him since we were both in our 20's. Reason I'm involved as much as I am is that the locos are all old style 12v DC locos powered by what is known as "pancake" motors, not the current DCC style and are still as they were back then, the layout was and will be staying a 12 volt DC layout, there are no intentions to convert it to the new style.
My layouts never appeared at shows where this one appeared, for a good reason, The guy who originally built it and I never could agree on much (his choice, I never rubbished him the way he rubbished me re preferred layout style), I never saw the point of layouts that went in pointless little ovals (or big ovals - this thing is close on 40ft by 15ft !), I've always preferred terminus to hidden yard or end to end layouts (just my preference, I've never built a circular (or oval) layout, he built nothing but. Just the way things were back then. I never held anything against him for that.
I never saw this layout at an exhibition, When he passed, this layout went into storage in a shed at his son's place. His son is now moving and put the layout up for sale, as was, with all of the locos and rolling stock that were with it. He's not into trains and didn't understand his dad's fascination with them. My mate and a couple of the other original crewmembers clubbed together and got the layout etc; for a rather good price, (given the work they'll need to put into it), with the intention of restoring it and putting it back on the exhibition circuit, Good luck to them say I, they're going to need buckets of it ! The layout itself doesn't interest me, lives nowhere near me (its in a barn on somebody's property on the other side of metropolitan Sydney, at least 70 miles from here. In addition, they all know I've finished totally with exhibition layouts. I couldn't be less interested in having another exhibition layout. Probably won't build another layout again either (although I have learned to never say never) ! I've even had to borrow a couple of pieces of track for test running purposes ! I'm also giving them the locos of mine which I used to make available for use on/with this layout at exhibitions (as long as its owner wasn't told who actually owned them ! )
Sorry if anybody got the wrong impression here...

Whew !
I MIGHT build another layout - the temptation is rather strong to do so actually, and I've just discovered a pile of 3x1 timber I could use as its underpinnings ... hmmmm 🤔 need to think some more about that... 🙄 Dunno...
Its not good styrene painting weather, but I'm lacking the most basic of things needed for railway construction, like track and wire... it'll be about a month or two before any such things can be afforded too... Given a medical appointment next week to remove a rather large BCC from my arm that's been there way too long and a couple of other bills that have shown up as well... nothing's cheap anymore... At least I have the timber needed in stock for the baseboards and a lot of the trackbeds... 🤔
If I decide to go railways, the styrene kit side stops, apart from whatever kits necessary for buildings etc;
Like I said, dunno, more thought needed

What twerp left that chassis lying about ? 🙄
It is of course the 35th Italeri SdKfz 232 6 wheeled Armoured car (and about as close as I ever get to wheeled contraptions) ... 😆
Only needs its turret and external complications to complete...

Pondering over...Railways are out, gone, end of. Working on the locomotives put my aspirations in that direction off completely. All my railway stuff is now in three large-ish plastic storage boxes in a hard to get at cupboard.
Back on the SdKfz 232, one side has its full suite of external complications installed, the other side will cop its external complications later today. The turret will be constructed and added tonight (or tomorrow) dependjng entirely upon if I feel like returning to the desk after my evening meal..
After that, who knows what'll come next ? I have a pretty fair idea it'll be something a bit smaller scale wise, as long as my eyes will allow it.
That's for tomorrow's Sitrep, as are photos (can't be bothered with photos today), sorry !
Til then, that's about it from moi

I did eat last night, and again this morning...(burp !) 😳
The 232 was finished to the paint stage last night, after I decided not to fit it out as a radio car with the frame aerial atop it. I do have another one of those kits to do, so that one can be the radio car, and the frame aerial I didn't fit to this one is a handy source of plastic rod, as will be shown later in this post...
The unfitted frame aerial has been raided already for a section of thin plastic rod...
Which has been used to replace the gun barrels on the leading edge of this FW 190 A--5 (those things always get knocked off by fumble fingers whilst construction and sanding/smoothing operations are underway....
The 190 is an Eduard Weekend kit in 72nd scale btw.... 😈 Just needs a few more parts, a tad more paint and its decals to cross the line.. 🥱

Nice work M. I've replaced broken guns before with cut down round toothpicks painted the appropriate color.

I've seen gunbarrels in 72nd and tank aerials in 35th done with brass rod....Works perfectly, til you forget they're solid and will spike you or anybody unwary enough when handling (or mishandling) the model... Ouch ! 😖🤬
