I'm putting this in "modern" since most of it is. I started by wanting to use a very nice Takom Bergepanzer 2 that I got cheap since it was missing some wheels and other bits, but nothing quite clicked until I bought a Tamiya M41 kit at the last show I went to for a whole $5. I also had a set of SpadeAce T-55 tracks, assembled and ready to go, unused because they don't fit any known T-55 sprocket on the planet. I shook the boxes hard and..... Well, actually, I built up the basic M-41 hull, took about an inch out of the Takom upper hull and began sticking things together. IMG_4093 by Russel Baer, on Flickr The pic above shows Merkava 4 tracks from SpadeAce fitted, but I changed them out because of both fit and shape- the links are supposed to be rectangular and they're not, very visibly so. The pic below is with the T-55 tracks and sprockets from a Skif kit of a T-55 with RmSh tracks, narrowed about one mm. IMG_4111 by Russel Baer, on Flickr The lower hull was detailed a bit with Takom shocks and added armor from a HobbyBoss Leo2. IMG_4112 by Russel Baer, on Flickr Then I just kind of started adding stuff from the Bergepanzer kit, making things fit best possible on the hull since I lost a bunch of space when I shortened it. Splendid kit-bashing, Russ! Very creative stuff. I haven't started my Bergepanzer yet, but it is a really nice kit by all accounts.

This will be an impressive bit of machinery when completed. It's already looking that way.

Thanks all. I've found that doing weird stuff like this is an excellent deterrent to modeler's block. Who knows, maybe Tolstoy wrote children's books under another name. Anyway, it's a lot of fun and uses up partial kits and old stuff in a hurry. And to make me even more entertained, the local IPMS chapters have no idea what to do with this kind of stuff at a show/contest. Pics as it is now, about ready to start the crane: IMG_4138 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_4139 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_4141 by Russel Baer, on Flickr I think it's time to build the crane.
