Sorry I have been missing in action... took a 3 week road trip, saw tons of cool places and visited family in North Carolina. Wanted to try and see Bucky but couldn't get there due to a family change of a day we had to be there. Sorry Bucky! Anyway we saw many Civil War sites, Revolutionary War sites, and historical sites such as Jamestown and Colonial Williamsburg. Made it to the Atlantic Ocean on the Outer Banks in North Carolina, the water was so warm compared to the Pacific Ocean!!! Some were happy discoveries as we took many back roads... I'm not an interstate driver unless I have to... too boring!!! Covered Manassas National Battlefields, battles of Bull Run I & II, Gettysburg National Battlefield, Appomattox Courthouse Surrender site for General Lee and his northern Confederate army, Bennett's Place where General Johnston surrendered the Southern Confederate army to General Sherman weeks later ending the War, something you don't hear much about. On one back road we discovered a memorial to Jefferson Davis, a giant obelisk that we were able to ride to the top and see the surrounding countryside. Fantastic museum there. Went to Custer Bighorn Battlefield, Yellowstone National Park, Bighorn Mountains, Devils Tower National Park, Badlands National Park, and a few others. Crossed the Continental Divide, the mighty Mississippi River and Missouri River twice and traveled through 4 time zones.
Met lots of cool people along our journey across 19 states, total miles traveled was 6,738. Red and I car camped and stayed in motels once in a while to charge batteries and have showers! Crossed tons of things off my bucket list! America is indeed beautiful and diverse!!!

Sounds like you had a great trip, bro!! Not much down time, either! LOL Maybe next time you swing toward the east coast, you can let gravity take hold and bring you on a more southerly route!! HAHAHAHA

Indeed it sounds like a wonderful trip, Joe! It's been 25 years since we did any Civil War sites; back then we did Vicksburg, Shiloh, Lookout Mountain, and Chickamauga. We've been to Custer Bighorn, but the car was acting up (and it was busy) so a return is in order. We're off to Grand Teton and Yellowstone ourselves in a week and a half and will be on the road for two and a half weeks. In addition to the National Parks, we're going to visit the National Museum of Military Vehicles in Dubois, Wyoming and hour & a half out of Jackson, and the Warhawk Air Museum in Nampa, ID. I'm with you regarding the interstates; we avoid them for the most part. This trip we'll be using I-84 through Oregon & Idaho for speed of advance; that and the fact that we've already traveled most of the back roads between here and Twin Falls. Until Nancy retires from full-time work in a couple of years, we will still have limits on how long she can stay away at one stretch.

I had a couple of weeks out myself as the good lady was off so we had some quality time together even if it was just sitting and watching a film together
