Newbie Here. . . The last time I built a model Richard Nixon was President. Yes it has been a while but I am getting back in to the hobby. I am AMAZED at the resources modelers have now. Back in 1972 all I had was the magazine "Scale Modeler" which was great but that was it. Thanks to the internet this has changed. I am surprised at how much kits cost. Back in the early 70's model kits were about $3-$6 dollars with Tamiya kits at around $15. But everything has gone up, not just models. Anyway I am looking forward to getting any kid of tips, hints and suggestions here. Many thanks, Keith

Hello Keith, You'll find the site a little quiet at the moment but hang in there and we'll try to answer any questions you might have
My spitfire I'm doing would cost you £95, but I won it in a raffle.

These kits that cost $60, $70, $80 blow my mind. . .not to mention the 1/16 kits.

From one Keith to another, welcome to the OSM family! Glad to have you on board! Tell us what type of models you prefer building. As you probably already know, we have a wide variety of subject matter here, so most likely, whatever kind of project you are working on, someone around here will be able to help you out with tips and tricks. I got started in the hobby back around 1963, so I do remember the good old days of cheap kit prices and no internet research! LoL 😆

Hi Keith and welcome. I pay £16 for the WW1 Tommy's War figures. Unfortunately I dont have any local model shops so I'm a slave to the internet and trawl through it looking for bargains!!

Thanks everyone for the welcome. Right now I am big in to the armor line of kits. It just seems like an easier way to get back into the hobby. I started off last night building an Aurora 1/76 scale Sherman which didn't go too well. Bad fitting parts plus it was just too dang small. So I shelved that project for the time being and moved on to a 1/72 scale Academy M2A2 Bradley. Not much bigger but the parts fit way better than the Aurora kit did plus it offers more detail than the Sherman (the tools were molded onto the hull of the Sherman which I thought looked kinda cheesy). But for $7 kit, you get what you pay for. I also warmed up my new air brush setup for the first time today. More practice time needed but it felt good to get started. It's nice having paint and glue on my fingers again. . . Also - The Carpet Monster is real. Cheers!

Don't get frustrated... just go with a larger scale if that is too small!!!

Keith, that is awesome that you're building and getting practice with your airbrush. I would love to see pics of your latest work. I will post here soon of what I have built so far. . . . a 1/48 Tamiya Sherman and just about to put the paint on a 1/48 Tamiya M1A1 Abrams MBT. I really just work on these on the weekends. I'm taking a slower pace now than when I was a kid building. . .I rarely looked at the instructions . . it was just a race to get to paint it. . . But now I take my time. . .it's much more enjoyable.
