I wonder why at most a half a dozen folks on here build cars ? Military stuff is predominant on this site...why is that???

Most of them are afraid of painting a nice, shiny, smooth finish... weathering hides a multitude of paint mistakes, ha, ha!!!

History has always been my thing, hence forth my love of military stuff. That being said i am very drawn to cars. I have 2 waiting to be built as we speak. Another reason for not building cars is that I was never and I repeat never good at getting that final gloss finish look an the body's. But I'm working on it.

Patrick, I don't dislike autos but space has always been at a premium and I have always been fascinated with anything military, this meant for me figure building/painting. Also I've never owned a spray gun and this would be needed I think to get the results that you auto builders achieve.

i guess my owning many 1/1 sports cars shows with my model building subjects. My father and my wife's father were both wounded in W W II I lost two cousins in Viet Nam Hence my lack of interest in [war toys].

Patrick, although I tend to focus on "war toys" as you call them, I have dabbled in automotive subjects. I have one currently under construction. That being said, I am also afflicted with that malady that prevents me from getting a decent, shiny finish on any cars. I still try though.
I have had several family members who have fought in wars, a number who are serving now and I have lost some in the past. I build my "war toys" as a remembrance for their service and sacrifices.
One last thing: I frequent at least seven other Forums and this particular one has more automotive builders on it than any of the others! As a car builder, you are in the perfect place!

I just about exclusively build civilian vehicles. I do have a very few military kits hanging about that I will tackle some day. I just haven't been able to concentrate on much in the hobby realm over the coarse of the past three years. That's why my participation has been lacking here at OSM. I've done a little bit of work in the Hobby Shack recently, but haven't had time to post any progress pics. Hopefully, that will happen, soon.

Most of them are afraid of painting a nice, shiny, smooth finish... weathering hides a multitude of paint mistakes, ha, ha!!! Joe is absolutely correct in my opinion. Finding the right process that works can be very challenging. When I first started modeling, cars was my only focus, racing cars to be exact. I just got burned out. Now I model whatever I feel like from cars to armour to whatever comes into my head. I like it that way.

There are many automotive modellers out there. Auto modelling appears to be bigger in the USA than anywhere else judging by the number of automotive only model shows and huge auto entry levels in the US IPMS Nationals each year. I am sure that there are many auto modellers in different countries all over the world, but very little in the way of dedicated shows. Jabbeke in Belgium comes to mind as the premier annual European Auto Model show and the annual Truck Modellers show at Gaydon UK each year. The IPMS UK Scale Modelworld show held at Telford Annually in the largest scale model show in the world, but automotive models on the competition tables is no where near the number of entries in the US IPMS Nationals. It is just a fact of life that more model makers are interested in Aircraft, AFV's and warships than anything else, and this is reflected in what kits get churned out annually. Besides automotive, I am also interested in classic era sailing and steam/sail ships, but they are almost completely overlooked by plastic kit manufacturers as poor subjects to market. The last plastic sailing ship kit I can remember being made was Revell's very nice Vasa kit sadly now out of production but much more accurate that the old Airfix offering dating back to the 70's that still appears in their catalogue.
