I've pretty much maxed out my current model display cabinet. It's a cheap Ikea-ish 2'x1' design with only 4 shelves in 5 feet, not very space efficient. So I've toyed around with building a new computer desk and incorporating model display cabinets in its design and my PC will get built into the desk for a more minimalistic setup. The desk design I made is modular enough I can build the first display cabinet stand alone without needing to build the rest of it and it will fit in the foot print and open space of my current cabinet that sits next to my desk.
But anyways, I'm just about done with this display cabinet. Using birch plywood and oak 1x2s. Got my shelf rests and lighting yesterday and set it up. Now that I have the shelf rests installed I can get more accurate measurements for glass shelves and get all that coming. Once I have the glass I can finish off the top frame pieces on the side panels and then get it stained and clear coated. But the lighting with a remote was a big hit with the kids...
The current cabinet had roughly 8 square feet of space with 4 shelves and this one has about 10.5 square feet with 3 shelves. So right away, I have more space in a footprint not much bigger than the last one while being significantly shorter, but since it sat next to the desk in the corner it was wasted footprint space anyways. And then once I have the desk fully built, I can build a smaller cabinet on the same side for the top of the desk.
