I'm starting to feel like the Weird Al of the tank modeling world.... sort of. Anyway, the latest (I think) in order: Tamiya T72, in Syrian hands: IMG_3821 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_3822 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_3823 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_3824 by Russel Baer, on Flickr Then the Trumpeter Challenger 2: IMG_3750 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_3753 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_3749 by Russel Baer, on Flickr Followed by the Sholef (Slammer) 3. Yep. As a kid I got to go to the FMC test track across from the San Jose airport back when my dad worked for FMC and watch M113's circulating on the test track, absolutely awesome. I think that's where I got bit.

Good to see a bunch of completed builds! I really like the worn paint on the 72, how do you achieve that?

Good to see a bunch of completed builds! I really like the worn paint on the 72, how do you achieve that? Thanks. I used a base coat of Tamiya brown from a rattle can, let it cure really well, then shot a coat of clear flat enamel. Over that I did the green, also Tamiya rattle can, and scrubbed it a bit with a brush slightly wet with Tamiya thinner till some brown showed through in high-wear areas. Another coat of clear flat enamel, then I used Vallejo acrylic and a brush to do a light tan pattern, letting it dry for a couple of hours before using another junk brush with short stiff bristles, damp with water, to scrub it a bit, trying to show some green and brown in similar areas. I passed on using hairspray between colors, thinking the different types of paint would be sufficient to allow scrubbing one coat while leaving one untouched. It worked okay, so I finished by using a fine brush and Vallejo dark brown and dark green to do a small amount of chipping and scratches. Another shot of clear flat, then pin washes and dry pigments finished it. I had so much fun doing it that I'm gathering parts to do a T55 the same way, but this time I'll beat it up more. I would have done more damage to the T72 but Tamiya molded the fenders, fuel tanks and tools boxes as one piece, integral with the upper hull, making it difficult to show fenders with missing fuel tanks or tool boxes. The T55 kits have separate parts so I can really go to town there.
