Same to all of you here! 2023 is arrived and I'm in the middle of yet another remodeling project. In early 2022, we had planned to finish the purchase of the 1.5 acres of land where our house sits by the end of the year. In June we were thrown a curveball as the owner of the land gave us 1 week to either vacate the property or come up with $100,000 to purchase 3.0 acres of land and 2 houses (Our parcel and the parcel next door). In that 7 days we were approved for financing and did in fact buy everything. From there, our plan was to put about $10,000 into the other house and rent it for a few years to pay down the mortgage, but our general contractor gave us an estimate of $60,000 just to make that house livable--so our plans changed yet again. We have spent every spare minute since August gutting and repairing the house. Phase 1 is expected to be completed by April 1 when we'll move to that house, complete a few final projects at ours and then rent our current home. Then, in May, Phase 2 begins--an $85,000 room addition. Phase 3 hopefully can begin in mid-2024 when we'll pour a concrete floor in the 24'x40' pole barn and build my combination woodshop and hobby area. Phase 4 probably will happen in 2025 when we'll add a 2-car attached garage to the home. So, for the foreseeable future, I'll still be working about 60 hours a week at my job and spending 15-20 hours a week on the remodel. However, my home office will be posted here as we have an awesome plan for it that really ties into my models, woodworking and IT work I do! I do follow these forums, but time hasn't been there for me to do any builds lately.  |
