Jed you can cut the decals with a sharp scalpel and try the softener again. That should work. Rub it with a cotton swab but try to not damage the softening decal.

Thanks all, I've had another go at the decals more softener then gentle rub with blunt cocktails stick and a cotton swab. Time will tell!

Beautiful bird! If the softer doesn't work, try my Hail Mary play on decals like that which are too thick to sink into crevices or that curl up incessantly:
Tamiya Extra Thin applied extremely sparingly.
Yes, you read that right. I've had to use that at lease six times now.

Thank you all, DuckyShot the panel lines were done using AK wash for brown and dark green, possibly a bit too dark on the belly of the plane but I quite like it.
