Good and subtle weathering so far AG. Building dioramas is yet another area of model building that I'd like to tackle. I've built a small shop for my auto builds that I haven't shown here as of yet but it has inanimate objects and not foliage or the human presence. You've got a good start going with the diorama base for this build. Looking forward to seeing more of what you'll be doing here.

Thanks for jumping by guys, I'm back from holidays in La Gleize, Belgium. Can you believe I had a blast with this rare Tiger II (from the 1st SS Panzerdivision LAH )? Ok back at the workbench, I brushed on multiple semi transparent layers of oil washes to create dust in different shades.

Exhaust pipe... not the best part to grab on any vehicle The oil washes look very realistic

Exhaust pipe... not the best part to grab on any vehicle The oil washes look very realistic Ordinarily I would agree wholeheartedly...but since that beast hasn't run in at least 77 years, he's OK using it as a photo handle . Nice to see the old monster hasn't changed, and that the awful inaccurate color has been maintained so at least it isn't rusting away. I snapped a few pics of that same vehicle back in 2005.

Ya see.....this is where not knowing any better has its advantages. If you wouldn't have pointed it out I would've never known. lol. Where IS that tank at anyways?

Mustang, it is in the village of La Gleize in Belgium, in the northern part of Battle of the Bulge country. Kampfgruppe Peiper, a formation of 1st SS Panzer Division LSSAH went through there in a doomed attempt to reach and cross the Meuse (Maas) River. Peiper was given the King Tigers because they were the latest and greatest; as commander of a fast-moving shock column moving along tortuous secondary roads Peiper was unimpressed by the behemoths and relegated them to the back of his column.
The wife and I spent a couple of days in the region back in 2005. Bastogne is a wonderful town to base yourself out of for a few days exploring the area. The hotel we stayed at in was a Best Western at the time; the guest book we signed also included the signatures of Babe Heffron and "Wild Bill" Guarnier just a year or so prior to our visit. There are numerous museums, and the big one at Bastogne is superb. Not far out of town, some of the foxholes used by the 502nd PIR during the siege are still visible in the forest. No one but us was there the morning we visited, and it was certainly an eerie experience.
The King Tiger's paint job isn't accurate color-wise: The Afrika Yellow is much too pale; the red-brown much too brown and dark. Yes, I know all about the paint quality problems the Germans had by that stage of the war and that the camo colors were supplied in cans as paste which were to be thinned with either authorized thinners or whatever was available or would sort of work. A preserved display ought to have colors that better represent the original intent.

Weathering with oils in progress. I will keep the colours vivid, it being a total oddball.😆
