The second coat of white is still drying on the F350 and it needs a couple more (at least) to cover evenly. I need to gloss for more decals on the excavator, but it's too wet & humid outside. I need to flat-coat the repairs to the boom on the excavator; see previous sentence. The second yarder continues apace with all the complicated little assemblies and measuring everything frequently.
Sometimes you just want to glue parts together without having to do all the engineering, too. So this got started:
Notice that I'm doing the easy parts first. The cab has those same decals that replicate window seals that the excavator kit has, so I'm saving that assembly until last. Since this is Hasegawa, the fit is near perfect. Each of those hydraulic ram bodies has an itty bitty O-ring inside, to center the ram and provide some tension to pose the machine. The assembly on the right is the front of the thing where the grapple mechanism will attach, and there will be an axle underneath it. The inside has a quick coat of orange done with a brush; that pump thingie on the shelf will be done in silver. I expect a lot of this interior to be difficult to see later on, but I don't want to have to overpaint that pump and this (I hope) will allow me to keep the airbrushed orange away from it. The main chassis on the left is seen upside-down. The bottom piece with detail of the bottom of the engine is painted black, and I've brushed the sides with orange. The axle assembly will get painted dark gray, and the big transfer case will be steel and the drive shafts also black. I suspect that most of this will be invisible when complete, but I don't know so better to get some paint on now. There are more parts to be added to this unit, and my hunch is that the whole area will be pretty grimy on a real machine.
