Problem with that is you'd never get the dark spots covered with yellow, they'd always show thru. This way I have a solid base to start from, and the next steps will be a overall rusty base, chipping fluid, and then the yellow. As it is, using this method will still result in different yellow tones between the box and the rest of the truck but perhaps I can find a way to minimize that.
Lotsa dust perhaps

Yessir AG ho ho ho At the end of the day it might make a difference, we'll see. Thanks for the nice comments. I redid the yellow application, took a long time to get it right as you all know yellow is difficult at best Used this stuff under the yellow, one good coat is all it needs The bottom of a dump truck box that's seen service is a strange combination of old rust and polished steel. I've attempted to replicate this using pencil graphite ground up on 320 sandpaper and applied with a sponge. You can see where I've been with this and where not, did this to give a before and after in one picture. After allowing it to dry overnight, I began to chip the box. I do this by wetting small areas with water and a soft paintbrush, then stippling with coarse, stiff brushes of various shapes and sizes. This is a much more controllable method of rust chipping. It helps that the Mission Models yellow paint is far from durable but I'll need to flatcoat it after I'm done. Regards, Marl

WOW!! What a big difference this time around. That's a cool idea with the floor of the dump bed as well. Some solid techniques going on here.

Well, I've been gone for awhile and now that I've come back again, I'm not seeing very many pics. About half of them load for me which is sad because all this wonderful work needs to be seen!

So spelling's never been my strong point As a side trip, the lockwork of a Smith & Wesson L frame model 69 Predictably the stripe decals disintigrated in places so and it's OFF THE BENCH I am delighted to report. As can be seen I was unable to paint the inside of the box satisfactorally, never got it quite right. Plaster dyed with dark grey pigment comes to the rescue, cast in a sheet and broken up with a hammer. AK light enamel dust was applied to tie it all together Not my best work, nor the most fun project but it looks acceptable which is better than what I was thinking about doing with it a few months ago Regards, Mark

Excellent work. I liked that you changed your approach to the bed. 100% better than the first try. I saw one of these at my Local kit store. I may get one now seeing what you got out of it, Thank you for sharing this build.
