I am confident the end result of this will be just fine given the good start.
Ya gonna beat it up a little like most log crew transports?

Will it be beat up? No; my automotive modeling skills aren't up to replicating dents and creases. It will be rather dirty, however. Some of that will have to be done with dry pigments, as I don't want to use traditional enamels & thinners on the rubber tires.
Mostly background work not worth photographing the last few days. That busted antiroll bar piece took a tweezer launch into oblivion, so I cut the other side off and made new, simpler parts out of .035" rod stock. The truck now has an aftermarket bar to go with the aftermarket bumper. All the fussing with the bumper overstressed the hinge pins for the steering, so I had to glue the wheel hubs in place with a slight turn baked in. The bumper and hose reel are now primed with Tamiya gray primer. This morning I cut the first few pieces to the headache rack and fixed the tailgate. One of the plastic pins sheared off, so I cut them flush on both sides and drilled for .031" brass rod. The thing won't come off now, that's for sure. I also added a wee bit more weight to the back in hopes of making it compress the tires a bit. That may or may not work.
And figuring out that I need another useful tool, which will likely be ordered this week. Some time ago I got custom decals made for a fictitious logging company, intended originally (and eventually) for the M911 tractor. I can use them here too, with a twist: Since the lettering is white, I need a colored background to make the text show up. The decals will fit pretty well on the front doors, so I need a repeatable background shape. An oval will work best, so I will source a self-adhesive template for airbrushing that I can use to paint the background panel. I'm sure the template will find other uses, too.

Some progress lately on this one. The headache rack is coming along nicely: Still more cleanup to do for the mesh, but I like it so far. The rack and the bed are drilled for .030" brass rod, so it mounts securely. Looks pretty good with the fuel tank, too. But there's a fly in the ointment: Yeah, that nice 3D-printed hose reel is too large for the space. If it's added, there's no way to get to the tank's filler cap and no room for this: The holder for the filler nozzle, with nozzle. So the hose reel has to go, and I need to ponder what to do about that. I had wanted one to ensure that there was enough hose to reach something like 30 feet to a piece of equipment, but that's like ten and a quarter inches in scale and too much to just have flopping around in the bed. I could make a smaller reel, but I have to wonder how flexible fuel hose like that is and how tight it can bend. More research to do, I suppose.

Looking real good from here. Are you going to have the usual dings and dents on the truck bed, tail gate? Most of the logging service rigs around here are brutalized by the crews, and greasy oily too.
P.S. You could always use black electrical wire for the hose. Figure on the correct diameter and bend as you need. I don't recall seeing any hose reals up here, but I could be wrong.

Steve, I've got some electrical wire of the appropriate OD on order with Amazon, still a few weeks away. My concern with fabricating a smaller reel is all about how small the drum can be. I can make something fit, and the electrical wire will certainly bend enough. But in the interest of realism, I don't want the hose to be more tightly wrapped in scale than what a real 1" hose would tolerate. A scale length of 25 feet would actually be enough, which is a about eight and a half inches long. A couple of inches will be taken up going from the pump to the reel, and another two or three hanging from the reel to the nozzle. Hmm... Perhaps a rather narrow reel mounted in the center of the headache rack, leaving room to access the filler cap, and mounting the nozzle bracket way over on the right side. Might work.

This is coming along nicely. VERY nicely!! I've read alot that's good about this kit and am looking forward to more progress. It is a nice little kit, and for most of you guys here it would be a snap. I'm finding it more of a challenge. That's partly because of the modifications I want to do for it, and partly because it's a pretty traditional automotive model which isn't in my wheelhouse. Tanks don't have lots of clear panes to deal with, nor an interior tub that has to get wedged into an already painted body or cab. I have to think differently about how I approach things.

I hear ya. I've got a possible armor build coming up and on one hand I'm really looking forward to it....on the other one I'm a little intimidated. Immaculate gloss paint jobs and pristine engine bays & interiors are my thing but an armor build.....got some learnin' to do.

Now, this is looking better: I fabricated a smaller hose reel that fits nicely, and a bracket for the fuel nozzle. That's the only thing I'm still on the fence about; it looks a little too vertical to keep a real nozzle in place. I can either shave it back off and add a little wedge at the base or modify the bottom end to add a lip to hold the nozzle better. Still mulling that over, but adding a lip is probably easiest at this stage. It's beginning to look like a working truck at this stage.

Well done and that is looking more like a true work truck. Thank you, sir! For a guy who doesn't do cars, this one is shaping up remarkably well. There's more stuff to do for the bed that hasn't even been started yet. Those zombie tools chainsaws and axes need to be restrained somehow, so I think that I've got some wooden boxes or racks to fabricate. Stuff like snatch blocks can just be left sitting there, I suppose. And it seems sensible to fabricate a hand-carry toolbox as well, unless I find something in the stash. Also need to order some oval & circle stencils so that I can paint suitable background shapes on the cab doors for the company logo decals. Just ordered yesterday from Accurate Armour in Scotland are a bunch of amber flashing beacons with bases, so a couple of those will find their way to the top of the headache rack.

I'd say you've got it nailed quite well, that reel will work, Beekster. Dings and dents coming soon?
Mustang, what Joe said, you won't have any problems.

Not sure about dents, Steve. Not really sure how to go about that if I wanted to. Maybe warm up a small screwdriver blade so that it softens the plastic enough to make a dent, but not melt through? Dents are something that you don't worry about with tank kits, for the most part. Usually whatever would dent thin sheetmetal like tank fenders & sandshields would also just rip them off entirely. Might experiment on an old Sherman hull to see what effects I get; got several lying around.
