Like Joe said, it's been a week now since we got any new snow, but we did get a hammer load recently. I estimate from my notes that we've recieved roughly 26-28" for the season, right on track for an average yearly snowfall. However, temps have been rising, which means either it comes off the roofs, or it stays and becomes a hazard for the next foot or so that increases the snow load. Most of mine has been falling off, but not the north deck section. As you can see, I've got plenty to share, so come one, come all, just take some snow with ya, HA! So, who's got the motherload of snow so far this year?

Looks beautiful, last time we had snow even remotely like that where I live was way back in the late 70's. We are lucky even to see any snow at all these days.

Mine all slid off the shop last night right in front of the doors... was not fun digging out so I could get to work as it compacts to very heavy slush when it slides off... oh boy! The driveway is now a bobsled run with all the ice and runoff going down it! I have a neighbor about half a mile away that looks to be stuck sideways in his driveway on a hillside... don't envy him getting it out...

Ah, Bruce, that's gorgeous, ....until ya gotta remove it, lol. That looks heavy and wet to me. We actually did pretty good till this last week's warm up, then the mush began to take shape. Ya Joe, you have a busy road at the bottom. Better get some guard rails up

Good question, Dazza. A lot of pre-planning went into the layout of the carport and lean-to to accommodate situations like this. Up here all construction, if following code, requires 4' frost protection and specs anticipating concrete heave, lifting, etc., etc., and water runoff preps. French drains are a must up here, especially with daylight basements. I had to repair a crack in the basement wall back in 2012 which led to the building of that deck you see in the background. Now all that snow falls over 8' away from the foundation and drains far away. It was an expensive repair, but I did it myself, saving thousands. Basically, all those years of busting my hinny making peanuts in construction has paid off big-time in the long run. The ground in front of the carport has been graded to slope and drain all water run off to the right of the dodge p/u and off into the grass area. Kinda hard to imagine, but it has worked quite well for years, and I see minimal water pooling next to the ford. Even with a 1.5" in 12" slope I do get water back-up from time to time, but I also place 6" pvc pipe halves between those 6x6 posts for that drainage. The pooling is minimal, works as expected. A bit long on the explanation, but there ya have it You're catchin up Patrick! Ya Joe, that's a dicey one.

South Central Montana has not seen much snow this winter but hey, it's the high desert. Temps seem to by cycling between 60 to -18 tho, and the howly wind's been blowing for two months now.
The first year I lived out in Oz's neck of the woods I did quite a bit of X-country skiing on Mount Ellenor, a goodish size peak in the southeastern Olympics. I noticed that there were alot of four to six foot doug firs along the logging roads which I found nifty. The following summer I went back up there to hike to the top of the mountain and discovered these four to six footers were really 30 to 40 footers that had been buried in the snow. No wonder the Skokomish river's always flooding in the spring
