Er... I don't mask, it's brushed on. Here's my magazine article "in progress" pic:

And with the lines cleaned up a bit, colors firmed up:

I thin the Vallejo colors with Austin's finest tap water, do two light coats of the camo colors and evaluate. I'm probably happy with it as it sits, so next will be another shot of clear, probably semi-gloss, decals, clear and weathering.
