Why do things like this always seem to happen over the holidays when expenses are already elevated?
When I got up this morning, for the third time in the past couple of months, my desktop had a significant "hiccup" requiring a system reboot. Given that the system is almost exactly 6 years old and is currently Windows 10 which was upgraded from Windows 8, I'm actually somewhat surprised by how well the system runs. It's also funny that just yesterday I was looking at a computer game on Steam and realized I couldn't download it because my system has insufficient memory (4 MB of RAM).
So, I jumped online and discovered that HP is currently offering a minimum of $100 off nearly all their computers as well as free shipping for Cyber Week. While there were a couple computers that were ridiculously cheap (like 70% OFF!!!), I decided to look at customizing a gaming desktop that was reasonably priced. I ended up with a great Windows 11 system with 16 MB of RAM, 8 MB of built in graphics, and wireless peripherals for $150 less than it normally would have cost -- less than $700. However, it's still a significant expense during the holiday season.
This old system will move to the model room and with the addition of a $10 WiFi Adapter, it will become my primary model research computer. It will finally mean I don't need to come all the way to the other side of the house whenever I need to check some mundane but important detail on a model.
Anyway, that's the story of my Friday morning. I hope everyone else's is going much better.
Until next time...
