My first kit was a 1960's lotus race car with a whole bottle of paint on it by brush!!! I was in Kindergarden and had mumps and my dad gave it to me to build to shut up my complaining about the pain!!!

My first model was destroyed by me decades ago by playing with it too much. I was six and built it together with my Mom. It was a 1/48 scale Sabre Dog kit.
My first model that I built on my own, is a 1/72 scale MPC Focke Wulf FW-190-D9. I still have it all these years later:

My first kit was a tamiya 1/20 scale F1 car. I don't remember which one. What I do remember is at the time I was living on $100 a month and bored out of my mind until another vet suggested I go over to the on base thrift store. A widow just donated her late husbands models. My first thought was my friend must not think a lot of me suggesting I do something a child would but I said to heck with it and grabbed one of the kits. The only kit MFG I had ever heard of was revel so you can imagine my surprised when I opened up a Tamiya kit for the first time. I spent 3 months detailing every tiny thing I could. From that point on I was hooked.

A Monogram 1/72 scale P-40, I was perhaps seven I can't recall...this in the days of Testor's tube cement that was always stringy and detail was molded on. It was some years later I began painting them as Ma was just short of hysterical over potentially spilled paint and that was something no one wanted to be around. I was thirty when I finally broke down and bought an airbrush, 'twas all downhill from there
Regards, Mark

My first was on my 7th birthday. We had just moved in to a new (old) house. My mom gave me a snap together kit of a Le Mans race car. I don’t remember what car it was. This was in 1969. I set down on the old wood floor in the living room and put it together in about 30 minutes or so. I was hooked from that moment.

I do not remember what the first kit I built was. The oldest kits that I have are a 1966 Dodge Monaco, a 1966 Buick Skylark, a 1966 Mercury Park Lane, and a 1966 Custom Ford Mustang (the Sonny and Cher car). I also have a 1965 Mercury Park Lane purchased in 1966. I guess I started building in 1966! Which one was first?? Who knows!

This represents the first model I ever built. I was about 7 or 8 years old, and my Aunt gave me one of these to build: I found this one on eBay, and grabbed it to build with about the same methods I would have used back then: It even has a motor! Finished product:

Great stories and picrures. My dad was bringing up three kids so money was tight but I can only imagine it was a 1/72 FROG or Airfix in the plastic bag with card picture stapled to hold it all together, what it was Ive no idea but I've carried on with the hobby on and off ever since
