He most certainly is. there are a few written histories that state that an officer or other rank suggested that a ball be kicked across in an attempt to lift morale and encourage the soldiers not to falter in their assault. This particular ball from this event was in fact on display in the main gallery of The Loos WW1 Museum

Anbsolutely awfull as were so many of the battles. To think OR's could be and were shot for cowardice when suffering shell shock (PTSD) but an officer would be removed from the front and in many cases returned home to convalesce !!
