Thus spoke Pecos Joe ("El Loco"), the meanest hombre this side of the Walmart ππ
Just cos I'm older than you doesn't mean you can refer to me as "senor" (or even " A "senor citizen") π
Taking the rest of the day off, just don't feel up to it, not the best today - sorry amigo

I knew a feller with the same birthday as you... he hated it, as a kid, he'd get xmas presents and two days later, more presents on his birthday... as he got older, it was one present with "Happy xmas AND birthday" on the card - he reckoned it was a rip-off, rest of us just said bad timing by his parants - oh well.... π€π€«
Apologies re the age, its you who is the "Senor Citizen" (I knew one of us had to be !) π
Best (and keep taking the tablets ! Thank yer lucky stars yer name ain't Moses - look at the size, weight and composition of the tablets he had to take... π€« He's lucky there were only 2 of 'em ! ) π²π G .ππ

Sorry Mustang, no can do....π
Please read my post at the top of page 11 in this thread. The 109 E and FW190 are both fully intact and have not progressed from the photos in that post - they are quite safe and intact, the 109 G is dead and gone, binned after a damage inspection. my sleeve caught its wingtip on the desk and sent it spinning to its destruction on the floor, not worth fixing. As my post at the top of the preceding page indicates, its not all bad. Its decal sheet was almost worth the price of the kit and will come in handy.
I'll git back onto both after I git this Armoured car off the line, It'll be UFO (UnFinished Objects), clean up time by then, the only UFO's this year are those two aircraft and the 700th HMS Norfolk.
These days 72nd aircraft are a diversion only, no challenge whatsoever, I've built a heck of a lot of them (well over 4,000 by less than generous rough guesstimate (been building models since I was 5, I'm 63 now π€―), over the years.
Unfortunately, I'm full up with flu today, so staying abed, normal modelling activities will resume as soon as possible - promise ! - sorry π€§π€

Gomez, I may not have replied here, but I've been following this Thread closely. Your work is magnificent and always a thrill to look at. Your speed and quality always motivates me to try and do just as well with mine. Whenever my mojo drops, I tune in here and watching and admiring your work always brings it back up.
Get well soon, and keep them coming!

@ Joe I'll second that, in fact I'll go as far to say that this sucking flu (ahem ! π€«), is driving me sane π€¬π€§π€π€
@Duke Feel Free anytime, stay tuned, my slipways will be reopening in the new year with a rather big bang and a welter of eye frying brass (where's my white cane got to ? ) ππ€ Norfolk will be just the start !
Sorry re the brevity, can't think anything like straight ! I hate the flu (in case you hadn't worked it out by now !)
All the blergh π€§ Gomez the plagued π€π€§π€¬π΄ If anybody's looking for me, I'm over here, hiding behind the 8 Ball π±

Cheers folks
Not much better, still coughing up oysters, but no headaches...at least π€§
Bit of a retrospective of my ship pedigree if dat's ok, Here's what I did with a trumpy 700th Bismark a few years ago, she's still in the collection and intact.
Almost complete, brush painted and brassed stack, ready to go aboard (She copped almost all of the extensive White Ensign photoetch set)
Aircraft hangars either side of stack base, showing the insanely teeny brass catwalks atop them (Catwalks disappear when the ship's motorboats go onto the boat chocks atop the hangar roofs) - aaaaarrrrgggh ! and other frustrated noises !ππ€¬ Last one has a " lie detector" included ππ²
Finally, the finished article, rigged with stretched sprue and set upon a base of a piece of gash 4x1 pine.
Here's Airfix's old 600th HMS Warspite, she copped pretty much the same treatment, plus a rebuilt foremast, incorporating the radar "lantern", she's as she was in 1943, operating in the Med...(and as soon as I can get ahold of the Trumpy kit of her in 700th, this one's headed fror the scrapyard.)
More tomorrow, a couple of Jap jobbies methinks its about time Nagato and Oyodo put in an appearance ππ

Wow!!!

Post by WardWorks on Dec 16, 2022 15:51:57 GMT -6
Wow π€
Here's IJN Oyodo - pretty full suite of Tom's brass on her, catapult, radars, crane jibs and some rails (the white covered rails are actually 4mm (railing height), strips of paper, superglued both sides before cutting into strips and then glued down with regular poly cement - once treated with superglue each side, paper behaves like regular styrene ! π€
Finally, here's the "biggy" IJN Nagato in all her glory, as she was in 1942, its the Aoshima kit, with a pretty large amount of Tom's Brass aboard, All crane jibs are brass, as is the catapult, radars and of course miles of railings, plus a drunken spiderweb of stretched sprue rigging. π€―
In other news, I've managed to get the Armoured car finished and she's had a coat of paint, now needs some hairy stick work on the tyres and a replacement gun barrel, plus the screens atop the turret.
Norfolk's got her main and secondary turrets aboard (unpainted as yet !)
I've been asked what tools and glues I use, so here's my usual glue selection, I tend to use all of the brands shown, as I build each kit.
Here's my usual tool kit, most of the kits in my collections have been built using these 4 items (plus a pair of single edge razor blades, brass scissors (Tamiya) and a small "Bug" when bending/folding/spindling or similarly mutilating brass etches on ships π
Back to my sickbed, deffo under the weather today, berluddy flu π€§π€ Think I *might* have overdone the glue and paint fumes last night π Own goal, deffo NOT complaining ! π

I'm still full of flu this end.... π€§π€ Apologies for the radio silence...π³ Thanks to all who replied π
Nothing's happened, but a lot of thunking has been done, all good (my eyes are already thanking me !), change of plan for the better...ππ
Re the Armoured car, Its turret top anti-grenade screen frames were broken in the kit π, but a little bitta thunking π€ had that one sorted sharpish. As I already stated, I have the Tamiya rebox of the same kit in my stash....
Tis the exact same kit, with a couple of Tamiya figures and their bike and rider plus a dog included (they're all bound for the figures spares box !) so I deftly removed the screen frames from the Tamiya kit....π€―
They'll need a tad of trimming etc; but they'll do, and just because I don't wanna play with Italeri's included horrible plastic screen stuff, I also intend nicking the appropriate bits from this rather useful fret in the Tamiya kit (its also included in the latest Italeri releases of the kit) ...π€π€«
That leaves me with the Tamiya kit minus turret top screens, not to worry though, I do have a cunning plan, πinvolving my old Mirage Pz II Lynx's Turret (mocked up here with the almost finished Italeri Item's hull...
Which is the way these jobs were supposed to be finished after the 120th Lynx had been produced, but Lynx production finished at vehicle number 110, so none of these armoured cars ever appeared with the Lynx turrets... there were one or two found after the war at various proving grounds, but the vehicle never entered production, so none reached the front line troops. I also have an idea for a quicky conversion to use the Tamiya kit's turret, with the screens and frames off a long scrapped Italeri version, Think I built that one as soon as it was released out here in the early 1990's, its long gone now, but its screens and turret still remain in one of my 35th spares boxes ! π
That's where things are at present in my state of Limbo, (sodding flu !)π€π€§
Best from the plague ridden sickbed of Gomez ππ

That's the part of the plan I outlined above π€ the bit I didn't let on about is the one that could well prove unpalatable to some π
Time will tell, just finalising the rest of the plan atmo, between coughs and sneezes π€§
What did I get for xmas ? The worst dose of flu I've had in a long time ! π€¬ Pardon me if I sound somewhat unamused or ungrateful about it π€«
I just want it to be over, had more than enough of it, thanks very much π€―
