OK all you racing types, Here I have a pic of some dirt racers from around 1965 or 66. Now pay attention to the #52 Ford Coupe in the foreground. There is something unique about that ride and I am not talking about the track-roadster style nose. Now, I know what it is and why it was done. How many of you can tell me you see it? Get it right and you win a Cookie.

Are you referring to the upside down frame at the back end?

Look really close. It's not just the back end----and can you tell me why?---so do you like oatmeal?

The biggest difference I can see is He cut off the hump on the body and rounded the hood. This was an attempt at aerodynamics. They also cut the springs, moved the driver position to the center of the frame and pushed the engine back. All of these mods would give some cars too much of an advantage. I think that is about the same time they began to regulate the mods to level the playing field a bit. Great pic. Thanks for sharing it.

A couple of guys are part right. As in the original post, the track nose and the body are not the issue. Yes, the car does have a track nose and a super modified inspired deck but those are not the issue here. The ENTIRE chassis is built upside down. The chassis was worked on a little but it was carried into the shop, flipped over and the car built on the bottom side. This allowed the axles to be ABOVE the frame rails which did lower the car but also dropped the roll centers a great deal. The coupe on the outside has some body roll, the little ford has hardly any and it is about a foot or more lower than the Chevy coupe on the outside. I do not have any pics of the unique suspension this car used but it was unlike all the others. It was a winner where ever it went. This was out of the box thinking in the mid 60's and I think its Coolernell!!!!!!!!! I wish it still existed, it would be really wild at the vintage races.

And it looks like it has equal length headers, which was pretty much unheard of back then.
